that's My World, ABC Wednesday,T for Texel.

The past week my family and I were here on this Dutch island of Texel, which is the largest of a group of islands in the north of the Netherlands. On the west side of the island sand dunes protect the island from the sea. On the east side there's only a small part with dunes and a dyke to protect that part of the island.
Arriving on the island the first thing I noticed were the flocks of sheep. The villages are very picturesque and well preserved. I often had the feeling that I was abroad, for it was so different from the mainland . There is a possibility to go on a seal watching tour. There's also a seal sanctuary.

A very common bird is the sea- gull, but all kind of geese are there too and the odd duck. We rented a house large enough for 8 persons. There were four bedrooms, two toilets, a bathroom, and a livingroom with a small open kitchen. A utility room contained a second fridge. The house was surrounded by dunes, and the other houses were all spread all over the place. Plenty of space for the three children to play. In the evening they went swimming in the indoor swimmingpool. We hired bicycles and did everything by bike. I didn't cycle here much. One of the villages I really love, is Oosterend ( Easter End). My sister used to live there from 1960 till 1967. My brother-in-law was the vicar of the Reformed Church of Oosterend. We spent many happy holidays with them.

I can see why you are having a great time together.

Les dunes, les grèves, les plages de sable ressemblent à notre côte du Cotentin.
Les habitations sont très différentes .
Le rassemblement de mouettes est très amusant, et la statue des moutons charmante.

Hi Reader Wil;) I've not been over to you for a while. What a lovely post on the island Texel. Living on the other side of the world, I never realised there are "islands" in your area. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from a South African living in the Sudan.

I won't like to live in the house at your header photo. There is no lawn. I like green like your other photos. That muscovy duck, my mum used to keep a lot of them, and I had to feed them. The drake was very fierce.

An intriguing slide-show; an entertainment in itself. Do you sell tickets?

What a great idea to all go somewhere so delightful, instead of piling on one family mamber's home.
I just love the level areas which would be such wonerful biking. I miss that a lot in the Ozarks.
Now, I have to go to Google Earth to find that delightful island.

Je ne connaissais pas cette ile Texel. J’aime beaucoup les îles, surtout celles où on est près de la nature. Vos photos montrent bien tout l'environnement de cette île. Vous avez dù passer de belles journées là-bas.

Interesting post wil - and nice to read you again after my return from Italy. I love your new header too - what a pleasant picture it paints of neighbours.

Thank you so much for showing Texel! You are right -very pictuesque! Some very old houses there too.
That was quite a big house (for Holland) you could rent!

I can understand that all of you enjoyed yourself - so would I have done. I reminded me a bit of the western coast of Denmark (Jylland), both the architecture and the nature. Not to mention the gulls :-)

Texel seems like a nice place to visit! Nice photos. You must have had a good time there.

Part of my T-post is devoted to a plant that is found in abundance in the Netherlands! I love them! Luckily I have had a few growing in my garden.

Best wishes,
Anna
