Remembrance Day

Today we commemorate the veterans who died  in WWI and WWII and all the citizens and prisoners of war.

The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day.It is worn by most people in the UK sometime before 11th November  till today, because WWI ended on 11 th November, but  the First World War officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

I had not thought of it - Thanks for the reminder! We call it Veterans Day here in the US.

A touching tribute Wil,
King Wilhem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands were present with The Queen and Royal Family on Sunday at The Cenotaph for the Remembrance Sunday Service.
The Queen had invited them to lay a wreath marking the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands.
It was good to see our nations unite to pay their respects to the fallen.
Whilst I was watching the service I couldn't help think of you and your family and all that you endured during the war and the suffering in The Netherlands before the Liberation.

'At the going down of the sun we will remember them'.

Kind regards,
Di xx

Thanks for your post. I love the poppy and my town spends the day remembering. It is a great lesson for our children who will carry it on after we are all gone.
