Our World Tuesday, ABC Wednesday, W for Water

Water can be a blessing or a curse. Thanks to the water in Holland, we invented windmills to protect us from  floods. We use our rivers to convey goods by boat to Germany, Belgium and France, even farther across the oceans.

In winter we always hope that the rivers and narrow waterways are frozen over, so that skaters can go in for their sport.

Behind my house there are fields for cattle. In

winter the ditches are sometimes frozen over and fit for skating

Water  can also be a pest. We have all seen that too little of it causes a drought and the danger of bushfires.

Too much water on the otherhand, causes floods and dangerous landslides.

The photos of the flooded area were taken in Queensland Australia.

In the distance you see the suspension-bridge,  hanging over a small river

 where crocs live.

Driveway.Fortunately my daughter's house was dry.

We arrived at the letterW. Please refer to Mrs. Nesbitt and the ABC on Wednesday. You can also put the logo in your sidebar or post. If you have any problems please contact one of the team members. There are still people who don't mention ABC Wednesday , which is a pity because it is a nice meme, and  it is one of the two conditions you have to comply with. The other one is: you need a photo of an object the name of which begins with the letter of the week. It might also be the name of a person, an animal, or any other word beginning with the appropriate letter.

Welcome to Our World Tuesday! This meme continues in memory of the work of Klaus Peter, whose "that's My World" brought people together from around the world every Monday to share the wonders therein--big and small. Please click on our  logo for "Our World Tuesday" in the sidebar. Thank you Team of O. W. T.!

A nice survey of water, Wil. Did you see the pictures yesterday of the problems when the Tbilisi zoo flooded?!

Interesting sequence of photos. The flood waters and wildfires are both scary! Have a happy week ahead!

Love the skating, Wil - it reminds me of a story about Hans Brinker that I only vaguely remember from school days.... thanks for sharing this information on water, especiallly as it pertains to Holland.

Water water everywhere...
When I think of Holland I always think of the story of the little boy who put his finger in the hole in the dam to save his town from flooding... Skating along the dykes, what fun.
I remember getting Christmas Cards with pictures of skaters having such fun skating along the dykes ...
Golden memories!
Good post Wil.

Best wishes,
Di.

How wonderful that the canals get to be an attraction year round in Holland.

Too much or too little water. The story in the US - California drought, flooding in the Midwest, with localized flooding in the Southeast.

Weather never fails both to annoy and delight.

Water can cause havoc, but it soothes the spirit when it is still.

Water is a good friend but a bad enemy.
Great theme for 'W'.

Interesting picture story showing how water (our very lifeblood really) can affect us in good and bad ways. The canals obviously bring joy in all seasons (in addition to protecting your country). Water doesn't seem to be distributed very well in our country right now.
