Our World Tuesday, ABC Wednesday, P for Pancakes

Every year in October our choir of senior citizens organizes a Pancake Party. We have to  go by car to the neighbouring village of Bergambacht. The Pancake restaurant is situated next to a windmill. It is open on Tuesdays till Saturdays from 10.00 till 21.00. On weekdays mentally retarded people work here with great enthusiasm and skill. They are supervised by the permanent staff. It is a great success.

There were three different kind of pancakes: naturel, pancakes with bacon and pancakes with cheese.

Further more we could have a salad , a meat dish, apples and raisins compote and a spicy sauce.

A meal is important but more important is the social side of  meeting  people of our age. We talked a lot, which we cannot do during choir practice.

Apples and raisins

Salad of fresh vegetables

A fruit compote of red berries, strawberries

The restaurant is called "Onder de Molen", which means : "Under the Mill".

This mill houses a souvenirshop, and of course we wanted to see what we could buy there.

This is what I bought:

Bergambacht is the name of the village. It 's a typically Dutch place.

With thanks to Denise Nesbitt,  who created ABC, and Roger, who took over from her. For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar. This week we are looking for words beginning with P

En ja pannnenkoeken...altijd goed.... ken wel een paar speciale adresjes in Nederland waar ze zo lekker zijn dat je je vingers er (bijna) bij opeet.

Pumpkin pancakes are the thing here now for fall. I've had them twice already in Oct. What a fun choir group you have.

Ooh! Wil,
I love pancakes and we have them traditionally on Shrove Tuesday, which is the day before Lenten fasting begins in the Christian calendar.
My mother served them with caster sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice, delicious!
I like savoury ones too, the pictures of your fillings look delicious too.
What a lovely way to spend the day with your choir friends, I loved the trinkets too.
I had a China Dutch Clog but somehow lost it when I moved house. It was from Delft and was painted in blue paint.

Lovely Post,
I really enjoyed reading all about your lifestyle,

best wishes,
Di, xx

Looks like fun! When I visited Amsterdam I so enjoyed trying the various pancakes, so delicious! The culinary influence of the Dutch is still with Indonesia as well - plenty of pancakes to be tried there as well. Thanks for sharing your story.

What a great time! The photos of this town remind me very much of Pella, Iowa. A Dutch community that celebrates Mother's Day with "Tulip Time" parade and festivities all day. Ah! Gotta love those Dutch Letters! :-) Thank you for sharing this post.
