Whenever I was in Australia, I never saw a dingo, but I heard then howling at night and my daughter's dogs answered them by barking , which seemed to keep them away. They don't show themselves easily, but friends of mine told us that they were once on the beach and then they saw a group of several dingoes coming towards them and it was rather scary.
Wikipedia:The dingo is a wild dog found mainly in Australia, as well as Southeast Asia, where it is said to have originated. It is currently classified as a subspecies of the grey wolf.
A dingo's habitat ranges from deserts to grasslands and the edges of forests. Dingoes will normally make their dens in deserted rabbit holes and hollow logs close to an essential supply of water.
The dingo is the largest predator in Australia on land. The dingo is seen as a pest by sheep farmers due to attacks on livestock. They also hunt rabbits, kangaroos and rats, which is seen as a benefit to cattle stations.
Dingoes have a prominent role in the culture of Aboriginal Australians as a feature of stories and ceremonies, and they are depicted on rock carvings and cave paintings.

Wonderfully informative post. Rock carvings are excellent.
I would not like to see a Dingo coming towards me...ever. That would be scary. I stay well clear of coyotes, too.
Had read about Dingo, but learnt so much more info today.
Thanks for sharing, Wil :)
due to movies and books extolling the fearfulness of dingos, I've never wanted to encounter one!
That line from a Meryl Streep movie is stuck in my head...

I've heard from friends in Australia that they have to be watchful for any dingoes when they go camping.
I like the paintings!
Dear goodness,
I would never go anywhere Dingo's and particularly camping near them !

Similar to our coyotes, here in the west, - maligned because of their love for fresh chickens but who doesn't like to hear them howling in the distance, and the occasional dog calling back....
Interesting post.
Reader Wil,
from Nonnie: I did have curiosity, but... if you had clicked on the link I provided, you would understand why I know no very little because on the site there was...pretty much nothing.
I vaguely remember reading about them in school books but never saw one in real.
The Dingo! I love that name. I can hear Steve Irwin in my head Maria’s Space
he's beautiful!
Very interesting ! I have never seen a Dingo.
Fascinating pictures. The dingo always scared me a bit, I think because I saw A Cry in the Dark when I was 11 and I was already afraid of dogs as a child...
Informative & interesting post! thanks for sharing it.Good Wishes.
I am a Dingo wizkid today...Thanks for the info...
I've never been to Australia. It would be a great place to visit if it wasn't so far away. - Margy
Great subject for letter D...a fascinating read♪
a dingo took my baby, will always remember this. I honestly can't believe she killed her baby. She being Lindy Chamberlian.
Oh -- it is ia very handsome animal ... Somehow I always pictured them as being small and sneaky looking . Sort of reminds me of our coyotes the way it behaves, but it does look more like a wolf..
I have been fascinated by dingoes since I was a child. I have always loved dogs and the idea of a wild dog captured my imagination. (Yes, I am a cat lover too.) We have coyotes, -- not so excited about them since I have heard their blood-curdling yips, yaps and yowls when they caught some prey right next door to us.
Interesting information, greeting from Belgium
Interesting that although the dingo is an animal to be cautious of the photo makes the dingo look really sweet and cute. The cave painting shows they were threatened by dingos also.
