Theremin, musical instrument |
The theremin is a very remarkable musical instrument. I saw it by accident on TV. This instrument was invented by a young Russian physicist named Lev Sergeevich Termenin 1920.
Operating principles
The theremin is unique among musical instruments in that it is played without physical contact. The musician stands in front of the instrument and moves his or her hands in the proximity of two metal antennas. Most frequently, the right hand controls the pitch and the left controls the volume, although some performers reverse this arrangement.
Celia Sheen plays the theme tune from ITV's drama series "Midsomer Murders" on the Theremin

Wow! This is new to me. Science and its amazing principles!
This a new one on me. Love to hear about unusual things so thank you for sharing.
I have read about this instrument before Wil but didn't realise it was used at the outset of Midsomer Murders - I shall listen for it.
Hope you enjoy your daughter's visit/
Wonderful instrument! thanks for sharing..
Ooh, I want one. I have seen one played in a science fiction movie and also on the "Big Bang Theory." That is a really interesting instrument.
I know it mostly from Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys!
What a great post for the T Day, Wil! I did know about the Theremin and have heard it, but it's been a while!! This brought back some memories!! Thanks as always for sharing!! Hope your week is going well!
I've never heard of this instrument before, but I love it and the sound it makes. I often wondered how musicians got that sort of eerie sound. And Midsummer Murders is one of my favourite shows, too.

A most unusual instrument; I wonder how long it takes to be able to play it with proficiency? Kate,ABC Team
I have heard about that one, but never seen one. The first one for electronic music?
I Hope all is well.
Very fascinating. I had heard it once long ago.

A fascinating instrument. The video was wonderful, Wil.
Amazing. I have never heard of this before. Thank you for sharing the video.
When I saw your title I immediately thought of Inspector Barnaby ! It's really a strange instrument, but the music sounds good !
I'd listen to theremin music in old movies, but didn't know what it was until I watched a documentary about it a few weeks ago. It's really an intriguing instrument, as is the history of its creator. Blessings!
How lovely and interesting! I have heard it before without knowing what I was hearing.
Such an odd instrument...but what would horror films do without them!
Wow! I've never seen anything like that. It's amazing!
What? Cloudia has one? This I'll be waiting for.
