have 20 windmills which are capable to keep the polder dry in case of
emergency and when there is no electricity to keep the electric engine
going. Yesterday I took my two Australian guests here. In spite of the
bad weather with rain and a strong icy cold wind, we enjoyed the walk
from my house to Kinderdijk. |

Hi Wil...beautiful pictures ...and seems like straight out of all the stories I ever read about the Netherlands. I had to go to Wikipedia to learn what a polder is; though it seems as if I should have guessed. Thank you.

Hi there. I never had a chance to travel down to Kinderijk, I will look to go there based upon your post next time I am in The Netherlands. My wife, Jean, and I did spend a day at the village of Zaanse Schans where we got to see their large collection of windmills on our last trip from Canada. For us, a trip to Holland just wouldn’t have been complete without seeing windmills in action. We are so glad that there are people in Holland working to save them! We also really enjoyed our visit to the beautiful gardens at Keukenhof, which is considered the best outdoor gardens in Europe. I would say the world!! As Canadians, we have traveled to many places on the planet, and The Netherlands is at the top of our list. And one of the key things to witness in Holland are the Keukenhof Gardens in April!!
Oh my goodness! You're actually able to walk to Kinderdijk? It's such a beautiful area. We were there on a beautiful sunny day and have such wonderful memories! To think we were so close to you so many years ago.
