On November 13th there was a solar eclipse in north Australia where my daughter lives. Here is some information I got:" A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and sun close enough to block some or all of the sun’s direct light. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun and blocks it completely, forming a shadow on the earth. For this to occur the sun, earth and moon come in a straight line in their orbits and it will seem like the moon has covered the sun."
My family didn't see a total solar eclips, but enough to see something spectacular happening. My daughter took photos and they show the whole eclips quite well.To enlarge click on them.

Oh your daughter got some wonderful pictures (like mother like daughter!)...I didn't even know about it until I saw on some Australian blogs last week.
WONDERFUL! We went to Hawaii to see the solar eclipse many years ago. It's really a fabulous experience. How lucky that your family was able to see it and take such fantastic photos too.
Great post, quite spectacular. I like your quote too.
Come to New York and show us how to protect from the sea, dear Wil :-)
Thank you for you comments and questions on my blog.
Yes, we do live in Australia, on the east coast of NSW. Our 17 year old son started in school this year, we may send more of our teenagers to school next year, we'll have to wait and see.
I'd hope to go to Tassie one day too! We're many north of Sydney and in a quiet country town on a big river- very pleasant.
Wonderful shots and information. Thanks for sharing.
You got some amazing shots!

Wow, exciting!
wow, cool! another great way to photograph an eclipse is to look at the shadows on the ground - they will be eclipsed as well.
