that's My World, ABC Wednesday, I for Inventor
I saw something on TV that might interest you. Wubbo Ockels, an inventor and Dutch astronaut, has recenly designed a sailing boat. You can find all details
here. And click on the English flag in the right topcorner to see a video of the Ecolution as it is designed.
The sailing boat Ecolution of the ex- astronaut Wubbo Ockels generates its own energy and was built of durable materials.
The secret of this 25 metres long two-master lies under water. There are two enormous screws made of carbon which generate energy during sailing. This electric power is stored in two batteries, which can also serve as necessary ballast.
Five sailing days provide enough power to live a life of luxury during a month.
On board there are four toilets, underfloor heating, kitchen utensils like a microwave, dish washer and a cooker, there's even a shower with a steam cabin. The ship enters the harbour with electro motors. In case of an emergenty the crew can return to biodiesel. Therefore the ship has two separated engine rooms.
Ockels is going to test his invention.Wubbo Ockels, the first Dutchman who travelled in space, became after his return on earth a fervent supporter of using durable energy. "We have to be careful of our planet; we have only this one ."

A few wind turbines are springing up around us Wil as one or two farmers generate their own energy.
Les explications sont très techniques!
Interesting...
I will study this techno...
-What a great looking boat.
aloha,
very interesting vessel, i'm wondering why there are four toilets in one boat though?
my tuesday tour of a hike to the lava on my sari blog.
What a great looking boat! And a great post for the day, Wil! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Sylvia
How wonderful for an astronaut to come back and design something eco-friendly. Just great, Wil, and a very pretty sailboat it is, too.

This is such GREAT news that someone is channeling his energies into new ways of creating energy.
Quite a yacht! I hope now he designs something for ordinary folks.
This is a fascinating boat. I hope the tests go well. Thanks for sharing this with us.
What an awesome design.
If only big companies would cash in on these designs
This is fascinating! he Ecolution is an amazing boat--generating its own energy and all its state-of-the-art technology. Wubbo Ockels is brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
So great to see the bio-house translated to the sea. Surely a great way to make luxury yachts carbon neutral.
I have never heard of this one before, but it sounded like a very sound idea. I hope that there will be many who follow in his steps.
Thank you for telling me!
Great post. So much green tech has been produced due to the space program, and people involved in it.
It is our INVENTIVENESS and INGENUITY that will save us. I hope.
On behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you! - ROG
What a cool looking boat and the way to generate energy is neat. I hope that it will become popular :)
This is an incredible and inspiring invention! Thanks for telling us this good news, Wil!
Very interesting post and I love the look of the boat.
My husband will love this...!!! interesting take on the theme.

Totally fascinating. That is an amazing ship. I admire inventors and their ability to make new things.
Excellent idea - when is the test run? A great post Wil.
fascinating technology! a great invention.
beautiful looking boat.
Way cool! Good choice of an 'i' word too!
I am very ignorant concerning boats ! lol !
Hi, Wil--Regarding our Dutch family name, three of my husband's grandparents emigrated from the Netherlands to the USA in the early 1900s and the other one's parents emigrated from the Netherlands before that. So my husband is of 100% Dutch ancestry, but I am of 0% Dutch ancestry. I have English, Irish, French and Native American ancestry. Three of Jerry's grandparents' last names were VanderBeek, Travaille and Sikma. I don't know his paternal grandma's maiden name.
A months worth of power on 4 days of sailing! That's amazing. I guess if the test runs prove successful we'll see others follow suit.
How inspiring to see the new ideas! This sounds like a wonderful invention, to be sure!
Very good choice of I-word -- 'Inventor'. Interesting to read about this new energi-reusing-sailboat. Excellent post.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes,
Anna

This is interesting - it would be great to win the Lottery and purchase one and sail into the sunset!
This was an interesting post today, Wil, I learn something new each time I visit.
Interesting. A bit over the top with all those toilets, though.
Nice take on the theme.
My ABC Wednesday
This is neat - definitely sending the link to my husband! Thank you for the link :)
Interesting... I need to read more on this.. thanks for letting me think..
Wow, pretty fascinating. I'd love a tour of this boat.
I love hearing stories of inventors. My dad was one, and so my son!!! The mind and imagination are the greatest tools we have!
Great Post!
I have a grandson, Reader, who would be most interested in this invention. I will link him up....
Je vroeg me of de foto vanop de tentoonstelling nog op mijn blog verschijnt, maar die staat daar al op hoor en dit is de link

Abel Tasman, I think we can consider him to be an INNOVATOR.
I didn't know this. Perhaps I should read the paper more often!
Nice share. As a mechanical and automation engineering graduate, this was quite informative for me to upgrade my technical knowledge about things happening in other countries.
