A for Amazing, Astonishing, Absurd...

It was a nice and sunny day and everybody in the lawyer’s office was in a good mood. They were cheerfully talking and sipping their coffee, when the door opened and a man entered the office, limping. One of his legs was in a cast, one of his arms was in a sling. He looked a wreck. One of the lawyers got up, put his coffee cup down and said: “ Mr.Brown, I presume!”. The man nodded and spoke with a hoarse voice; “Are you mr. Deed , the lawyer who will give me legal aid and defend my case ?”
“Yes that’s me. Could you tell me what happened?”
“I was attacked , while I was working in an old house, and suddenly this little old lady entered the room and pointed a gun at me. I was so frightened that I ran to the balcony and jumped off it. I broke my leg and an arm”.
Mr. Deed: “What were you doing in the house, are you an electrician or a plumber ?”
Mr. Brown:”No.”
Mr.Deed:”Are you insured?”
Mr. Brown: “No, that’s not possible with the kind of work I do…”
Mr.Deed( looking puzzled):”What time was it ?”
Mr.Brown:”It was two o’clock!”
Mr. Deed:”Ah two o’clock in the afternoon and then…”
Mr.Brown:”No no no…It was two o’clock at night!”
With a look of unbelieve the lawyer answered :”OH… but then you were committing .....burglary??"
MrBrown:” Uh… well yea that’s my job. The fact is that because of that little old lady I haven’t been able to work for many weeks and apart from that I had to pay the doctor and therefore I want her to pay for all my expenses. Besides it’s illegal to possess a gun…. Will you assist me when I take the matter to court?”
Mr.Deed:”Well…okay “
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------At court
Mr. Deed claimed that Mr. Brown lost a lot of money by the action of the little old lady, who was in illegal possession of a gun. The old lady said that she thought she was entitled to defend her house against intruders. True, but not with a gun even if it proved to be unloaded. She should have used…uh… her fists(???) Anyway she lost the lawsuit and was fined… one Euro.(the last part of the story was made up... sorry)

Oh dear Wil, a cautionary tale as we say here - still one euro is a small price to pay.

Yes I can well believe this! It is so absurd! I often are filled with dismay when I hear the real life stories we read every day!

Thanks so much for this contribution, am looking forward to your Round 7 offerings - we are in for a treat!

A hilarious story, but on the other hand - are we entitled to shoot anyone we will even if he is a burglar?

Thank you for the comment. The antennas are on top of a 330m high ridge, but I guess you would have to add at least another 50m. I'll look forward to next week's B, although I may not be able to participate myself. I'm sure it will be magnificent.

I'm glad the judge responded to the absurdity with an absurd reward!

I can see that happen nowadays. Madness.
But a very nicely done post.

Its amazing and absolutely absurd.

Love the cartton and the story. After the burglar pays his lawyer, he'll be in the hole.

The sad thing is: this happens for real nowadays. Ridiculous indeed!

This can't be a true story! However, it is amazing and absurd!

It does make one shake one's head, - whatever next!!!

A good laughable story, until you realize it could be true! Absurd is an appropriate word.

It's really darn awful that we hear about stories like this in real life and can hardly believe it. I'm glad in this case, it ended with one euro. Even that is too much. The burglar should also spend time in jail for illegal entry or something.

Arkansas Patti said...

The scary part is that this stuff really happens.
I agree, one euro would have been totally worth it.

This is truly amazing -- and absurd.

a s post that is a beautiful story, how cool!

I love the absurd. This ranks right up there with some of the best! Nice use of A.

Quite unreal, real. I like the story, Wil. Maybe I need to do something like this one day. lol

Jay at The Depp Effect said...

Hahaha! But ... sadly, I could well imagine that this could actually happen!!

Actually Wil this is not so far fetched. Only yesterday there was a story in the times that a woman was prosecuted for theft. She confiscated a tennis ball which kept being thrown into her flower bed and she was really fed up by children trampling her beautiful kept garden. She had spent a few days in jail too!!!

LOL.. the end was sort of funny.. :) well said.. the first part was nice.. the image sort of gave the game away early though..

The little old lady should have been given an award for scaring off the burglar. But you know what, I could see a case going to court like that. It's amazing what some people will sue others over anymore.

Happy week-end.

I'm going to follow ABC cause I love it- ofsourse after I have a new internet connection at my new house!
Awesome story! It sure worth an A!!!

Marina said...

Thanks a lot for your nice words! Ofcourse, I'm looking forward to meet you! My sis is fine but her computer has a serious damage. I'm sure I'm gonna miss my family and friends but I can't do anything else but follow my hubby...Economic conditions in Greece are getting harder day by day. I'm grateful that Brussels "came" in our life at this particular period, for many reasons. See you soon:)

Hahaha ! what a nice story, it rather belongs to Weekend Funnies !
I love all English crime stories, for the moment we always watch Midsummer murders or Morse or Lewis, they are very good !

Je crois qu’il y a des cas comme cela dans la vie, c’est incroyable. Mais le juge a essayé de mitiger ça en ne donnant qu’une amende de un euro.
