You will notice that this lake is half covered with ice and half open. It is partly open for the birds. There are swans, mallards, geese and coots. In the distance you can see skaters. This is a lake near Rotterdam.

Camera Critters is hosted by Misty Dawn. Thank you so much Misty Dawn.We all enjoy seeing and talking about animals. All creatures great and small give us much pleasure. If you want to see more Camera Critters click on the logo in the side bar

Prachtig, een vijver waar zowel de watervogels als de ijsschaatsters zich thuis voelen. Dit kan alleen maar een strenge winter zijn ...

Is the really cold spell and ice disappearing with you reader wil?
My friends in Hillegom talked of there being a skating competition because the canals were frozen. Has it all begun to melt? These birds look to be enjoying open water.

Hi!
Awesome Photos!! Water Fowl always amaze me. How can they stand that cold water? I know it has to do with their feathers, but still it's really cold! Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great week-end!

Wil, I love the concentration of birds on one side of the lake and the ice so thick on the far shore that people can safely walk on it.
Ah what t is to be the only swal iamongst all those duck1 I guess that is where the expressionf of 'swanning it' over the others comes from.

My goodness, I would be nervous to skate on the lake when it's beginning to thaw.

Swans are very regal looking and in the first photo...very confident. The ducks have their own particular charm.

did eye tell you about the first little diver that was swimming in that same open pool,it was attacked by two gooses, than dived under the ice and father swan came to chase the two goose...the whole duck, goose and diver population followed... chasing these two goose away out off the kralingse billabong as wide as it is hey hey blondie / AleXander of ROTTERDAM

DID YOU KNOW? so it didn't only looked as if the swan comes to you,it realy did came to me as it lookes hey,but already as a kid I learned that if you stay calm the animal will not attack at least not me...But the fuzz later was for real. The male swan thinks that you came to impres his ladyswan, but eye also know it can break bones with a single blow hey
