YES! THERE are many french words in English, came with the conquest by William the Conqueror- and there are also latin words, of course .
A funny example similar to "mannequin":
Tennis, whis appeared in france in the XVIIIème century with the fashion of sports was is fact an old french word , "tenez":

Tennis, proprement"jeu de paume", abréviation de "Lawn tennis, de lauwn, pelouse et "tennis", lui-même issu de l'ancien français "tenez",en anglais"tenetz", exclamation employée par le serveur lançant la balle.

Oh I just love that Happy New Year picture Wil. It reminds me of my childhood and you know what? We used to have a sledge being pushed just as the one one that card. I have often wondered what became of it. Fantastic.
