that's My World, ABC Wednesday, A for Amersfoort

Amersfoort is a municipality and the second largest city of the province of Utrecht in central Netherlands. The city is growing quickly but has a well-preserved and protected medieval centre. Amersfoort is one of the largest railway junctions in the country, because of its location on two of the Netherlands' main east-west and north-south rail lines. The town celebrated its 750th birthday in 2009.

Fascinating and beautiful. We have no canals at all on this island of mine so for me reminds me of home, the UK.

I'm pleased to hear that the medieval centre is well protected! I think it's important to retain at least some of each country's heritage.

I think I will miss the gren grass, except the little patch of water weeds under the bridge.

Such a beautiful city and it doesn't look a day over 749. We here in the states find that many birthdays pretty amazing. We are such babies in this world.

Great picturesque place and loved the photo and the artists drawing.

Glad to see the map too as I find the words a bit difficult to pronounce.

This is just so wonderful! At first I thought I was looking at Delft. That canal sort of reminded me of that town, but then again Netherlands is full of gorgeous old canals.

A charming and beautiful area. One of the best things about the internet is being able to visit places virtually that you might otherwise never see.

Oh I didn't know that Amersfoort was such a beautiful city. I started a list of places to visit when I come to Holland next time and put this on my list. The castle is gorgeous.

So nice to see a real watergate! (Americans know Watergate mostly as a scandal.)
