that's My World, ABC Wednesday, A for Amersfoort
The photos are borrowed from Wikipedia.Click to enlarge.
Amersfoort is a municipality and the second largest city of the province of Utrecht in central Netherlands. The city is growing quickly but has a well-preserved and protected medieval centre. Amersfoort is one of the largest railway junctions in the country, because of its location on two of the Netherlands' main east-west and north-south rail lines. The town celebrated its 750th birthday in 2009.

Lovely town. Glad you put the map out, for geographic context.

How pretty! The canals are so charming.
What gorgeous, stately buildings! Delightful.
Now that we have been to your beautiful country wil, the photos we see make all the more sense - we love them
Fascinating and beautiful. We have no canals at all on this island of mine so for me reminds me of home, the UK.
Such a lovely, lovely place! And I would love to visit there! The canals are beautiful and the buildings are indeed gorgeous! Thanks as always for sharing the beauty of your world, Wil! Always a delight! Hope you have a great week!

I'm pleased to hear that the medieval centre is well protected! I think it's important to retain at least some of each country's heritage.

Looks like a very photographic place to visit.
How peaceful a city it must be. Thank you very much for this wonderful escape.

Love the photo called Watergate. Like how it reflects into the water.
I think I will miss the gren grass, except the little patch of water weeds under the bridge.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful city with us. I really like the photo from the same vantage point as the print.
Looks like a wonderful place. Thanks for taking me for a walk!
The old city looks frozen in time.
750 years! Canada isn't even 150 years old yet. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the Netherlands. SO beautiful, Wil.

Such a beautiful city and it doesn't look a day over 749. We here in the states find that many birthdays pretty amazing. We are such babies in this world.
Beautiful shots of the city.
Great picturesque place and loved the photo and the artists drawing.
Glad to see the map too as I find the words a bit difficult to pronounce.
What a charming town and great shots of it.
What a very beautiful place. I just love it so much. Wonderful post for ABC Wednesday. You knocked it right out of the park! : )

A charming town, I can imagine spending a few days there (and taking a ton of photos of those beautiful buildings)
I like the map also, I always like knowing the location of countries from around the world. The pictures are lovely of the sweet old town.

This is just so wonderful! At first I thought I was looking at Delft. That canal sort of reminded me of that town, but then again Netherlands is full of gorgeous old canals.
Just lovely, Wil

Imagine, a 750th birthday, and we here can barely make 75 in the west. A beautiful town, - I was so impressed with the Netherlands when we visited there.
Very lovely place.
As always, you offer such wonderful imagery and words. Terrific A post.
Visiting from ABC Wednesday. I hope you can visit mine too:

A charming and beautiful area. One of the best things about the internet is being able to visit places virtually that you might otherwise never see.
Oh I didn't know that Amersfoort was such a beautiful city. I started a list of places to visit when I come to Holland next time and put this on my list. The castle is gorgeous.
So much history here! It is one a kind place and VERY old indeed.
They have some truly stunning architecture in the netherlands.
Amazing
A wonderful contribution to ABC Wednesday! Amersfoort is a beautiful city where history lives side by side with the contemporary.

So nice to see a real watergate! (Americans know Watergate mostly as a scandal.)
