The
Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest
coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs
and 900 islands stretching for over 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) over an
area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi).
The reef is located in the
Coral Sea, off the coast of
Queensland,
Australia.
I have seen this Great Barrier reef twice. Both times we were in a boat with a glass bottom so that we could see around us. The first time, in 1996, my daughter and I went swimming near the Quicksilver platform, where the Quicksilver catamaran, by which we were taken to the Reef, was moored. My husband didn't join us then, but he took photos. (not these photos!)
The second time was in 2000.

There's so much of Australia I have yet to see. Looks like this will have to go on my bucket list. I love all the fish.
I learnt to dive on the Great Barrier Reef! Thanks for the good memories.
That's a place I'd love to see.
It is a different world there! So beautiful!
We have never been to Australia Wil and I don't suppose we will get there now, but whenever I see film of it I am amazed at the colour.
Great post. The underwater world is magnificent.
I think it would be fantastic to go in a glass-bottom boat. What wonderful treasures there are to see.

How wondrous - your husband took some beautiful photos. I find it an utterly enchanting world and hope to visit it one day!
I must go there ANOTHER TIME i GO TO aUSTRALIA.
I tried scuba diving once but this is the way I prefer to see fish, in pictures or a fish tank! Beautiful pictures!
Yes, I would visit the barrier reef, great photos!
Beautiful underwater world. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness Wil, those are incredible. I wish I could visit the Reef. (The glass bottom boat would be wonderful for me. I have claustrophobia and can't handle snorkling. I love to swim, just can't stand the mask on my face).
It would be nice to explore Aussie!
