ABC Wednesday, Z for Zodiac

On our trip to the north of Israel we saw this mosaic floor of an ancient synagogue, which existed already in the third or fourth century. It was destroyed at the beginning of the fifth century probably by an earthquake. In the zodiak we can see elements which are not typically  Jewish, like the figure in the middle of the circle. Our guide was not quite sure who this was.

According to Wikipedia does the  division of the ecliptic into the zodiacal signs originate in Babylonian  astronomy during the first half of the 1st millennium BC, likely during Median/"Neo-Babylonian" times (7th century BC).
In both astrology and historical astronomy, the zodiac  is a circle of twelve 30° divisions of celestial longitude that are centered upon the ecliptic: the apparent path of the Sun across the celestial sphere over the course of the year .

Now we know the zodiak mainly for the use of creating horoscopes. Who among us doesn't have been looking for his or her horoscope for that particular week? Once in a while I did! But it was always amusing. Sometimes it said something like:"Don't wear red this week. It might be dangerous". I still don't know why ...Red becomes me and there were no bulls around...Oh, and my sign is Sagitarius.

Here are a few questions:
1 What are the typical characteristics of people of your sign?
2 Do you believe your life is influenced  in any way by your star sign ?
3 Do you regularly read your horoscope? If not, why not?

With thanks to Denise Nesbitt, who created ABC. For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar . This week we are looking for words beginning with Z.

I'm a Pisces, who tend toward the thoughtful and somewhat melancholy. Back in 1978, I got an extensive astrology chart done; still have it.

A wonderful and interesting post for the day, Wil, as always!! I'm a Leo and that's pretty accurate. I once followed it frequently, but not so much any more. Hope your week is off to a good start! Enjoy!

I am a Leo although I don't really follow the zodiak. It's fun though to read about it and the traits I may or may not favor. Those were great photos, by the way!

I'm a Scorpio but have never really followed the zodiac.
I can't have something telling me "not to wear red" because of the phase I was born under.

I am a Cancer/Leo cusp but am mostly a Cancer in traits. I used to follow faithfully but it has been a long time. The trait that fits me the most is that I tend to nurture adults, children and animals.

I'm a Libra and am very much like I'm described in charts - balanced, romantic, creative - and I read it every day. However, I take it with a grain of salt. Great post, Wil.

I'm a Leo, but they changed the calendar and now I think they said I was a Cancer. It's hard to have to change your sign. I feel like a Leo. What does a Cancer feel like anyway? I don't put much credence in zodiacs, but I think they're a lot of fun.

I am a Capricorn who are blessed with excellent organisational skills and keep focusing on their goal. but some how i am believing in Zodiac Signs our sign reflects from our behaviour and our mood swings. i read astrological signs every day.

I seem to read the horoscope in coffee shops where a newspaper clipping has been taped to the pick-up counter. Is that only in Vancouver? Although I think there is something in the ancient practice of charting the stars, I read the predictions in newspapers, etc. with a healthy dose of skepticism. I just looked up the characteristics of an Aquarian, and found that I'm a bit of a rebel (true), that I'm honest (true) and that I'm organized (not true). Thanks for an interesting post!

Oooh, another Sagittarian, Wil. So am I. Maybe that's why we're friends!
The charts and predictions of the zodiac are interesting, sometimes even fascinating, but I don't take them very seriously, either.
Good subject for the letter Z.

Did you know that there is a thirteenth constellation in the Zodiac? But no one ever cops to being born under the sign of Ophiuchus! :-( My entry for ABC Wednesday this week is Ziplocked.

Wow-I am truly amazed at the amount of content you have from your trip to Israel!! Absolutely amazing. And, let's not forget the Zodiac that goes across the water!

As an Aquarius, I can see some traits in my personality. The problem is that I can see parts of all the sign's traits in my personality! I read horoscopes for a giggle, and don't take them seriously. I find it difficult to believe my destiny is determined by the placement of stars and planets. ;-) But your pics of the zodiac floor are very interesting!

BTW, I am a Scorpio!

Here's what I meant by Zodiac across the water:

Interesting post.
I'm not in horoscopes, never read them, don't know nothing about the different signs. The only thing: I know my sign is Virgo.

I don't know what my sign is like. I just am happy to read them for fun.
