Sky Watch, Queensland, Australia, Earth Watch

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries/territories officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

On Saturday 27 March, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

Earth Hour 2011 will take place on Saturday 26 March at 8.30PM (local time). This Earth Hour we want you to go beyond the hour, so after the lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference. Together our actions add up.

Thyme's photo is lovely.
Enjoy the darkness, Wil; maybe we will see more stars than usual too.

Because of the Sabbath Israel is doing the Earth Hour tonight instead of with the rest of the world on Saturday.

Thank you so much for the reminder Wil. I will definitely turn out my lights on Saturday, go into the darkness on my porch swing and remember what a marvelous planet we have and how we need to be much better stewards.

Yes, Wil, thank you so much for the reminder and I will be joining all of you in celebrating our incredible planet and hoping we all keep it in our thoughts and prayers and actions over the next year. I do love Thyme's photo! Hope you have a beautiful weekend!

Thank you for the reminder about Earth Hour. I hope more people than ever join this year.
Your daughter's photo is magnificent. I also like your header very much.

Hiya Wil,
I was mesmerized by the canyon header, with that tender green focal point so in contrast with the hard rock.

In a way I wish that the lights out/power off was at the same time all over the globe, from a sharing point of view.

A couple of candles and a game of "Ganzenbord" are standing ready for me and my kids...Beautiful sunset by the way!

And yes, there is plenty of energy for all to go around. We should simply stop wasting it. It's really not that hard not to leave the light on in the bathroom, getting LED's instead of lightbulbs or closing the curtains half an hour earlier than usual.

Have a good weekend!
