When these branches were cut from the bush, the forsythia itself was not yet in bloom . The forsythia grows every year bigger and bigger, but it needs to be pruned and only the new branches should be taken off. It blooms on the old branches.

Yes reader wil, forsythia is one of the plants which will flower in water in the house. I like that.
I often bring in the buds of horse chestnut - we call them "sticky buds" and they come out beautifully in a warm room. Like your header.

I believe those live also the whole winter through right?

Love your header, especially the reflection on water...Have a nice week!

Usually forsythias boom before other bushes and seem like little flames in an otherwise grey setting. Lovely flowers.

Forsythia is a wonderful bush to cut branches from early to force into flower indoors!

Such bright flowers and how nice that you don't have to throw away what you prune but can get much enjoyment from it indoors. Also you have given me enjoyment by sharing these images.

Forsythias will bloom indoors when there is still snow on the groud. They bring hope and cheer into the house. Unfortunately I lost my big bush this year. It looked like it put out some buds in spring but it was too dry and it went the way of all flesh...

I love yellow flowers of any kind, they are always so cheerful.

As for your daughter's cat, our daughter's cat likes to jump into the bathtub and lick water from around the drain, why I don't know since he has fresh water in his bowl in the kitchen.

Oh, beautiful shots of the forsythia blooms, Wil. Mine is just about done now, as it's getting the leaves. I'm glad you mentioned the pruning, as mine really needs it. Does it get pruned in the fall, or can you do it now? I should know, but I don't, and it is getting way too big.

Have a great Monday.

Hugs,

Renie

I love the first shot with that beautiful wood floor in the background!
Four of my five bushes are in bloom at present. I have one big one that I do not prune back because I have plenty of room for it to grow.

La branche n'est peut-être pas très fournie, mais les couleurs sont intenses, et la composition du bouquet a un style très japonais (Ikebana)
Les forsythias de mon jardin sont en fleurs !

I love Fosythia, one of the flowers I always bought in thw apring - haven't seen them here in California (they may be here in very expensive flower stores, but i always go to !the middle of the road" ones). From your garden?

Bradley Hsi said...

I first saw fosythia was at Rodin museum in Paris, it bloomed like an explosion. Latter on we planted in our own garden. In deed, a heavy pruning at the end of spring after flowering, it will give such great show next year.

Right now, in my part of the Ozarks, the Forsythia are in full bloom. Almost all yards are dipped in yellow and it are so beautiful.

I still have some dwarf forsythia -- I think three bushes -- and these are quite old -- about ten years or more. I got them instead of regular size as the regular size gets way too big to suit my needs. But I used to grow a lot of them and all the trimmed branches were stuck in the ground to make new bushes. That process only take three or four years. Your photos are very nice, indeed.
