Halloween, or Hallowe’en, is an international holiday celebrated on October 31. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving Jack-o'-lanterns, reading scary stories and watching horror movies. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is celebrated in several countries of the Western world, most commonly in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom and occasionally in parts of Australia. In Sweden the All Saints' official holiday takes place on the first Saturday of November. Little by little it is being introduced here in The Netherlands. Especially since the books of Harry Potter, witchcraft is getting more and more popular, though we don't take that seriously. It's fun anyway!

That's a beautiful photo at the top of your blog. Tonight is Trick or Treat night here in our little town, so I have to have supper prepared early. Daughter that lives about 30 miles north of us is coming down to bring her son (9) and daughter that now lives with us will be taking her daughter (8), another daughter is also coming over just to walk around town with them all. I'm staying indoors where it's warmer. These old bones get chilled to quickly anymore. LOL
Och Wil, you have outdone yourself! Love that spooky slideshow.
Sidebar pics are fun too.
Knappe reeks foto's, vooral de mist geeft een speciale sfeer.
Happy Halloween, Wil! Hope you have a spook-tacular day. ;-)
I enjoyed your slide presentation a lot. Happy Halloween. Enjoy.
Love the misty photo, very dramatic.
Wonderful slideshow. I couldn't see witches, but I saw the bloodsucking bat.
I love your grandson's craved pumpkin. Lisa
This was a great slide show! I loved every image.
Your photos are beautiful, especially the foggy ones, but you mistake America for the whole world. The commercialism has not hit the rest of the world as you describe, neither is it a holiday elsewhere. There are still plenty of countries where the souls of the dead are revered and candles are lit on their graves on this evening rather than children wandering the streets trick of treating. Admittedly that can be fun but is not the essence of the Holy day.
Great fun slideshow
Fantastic shots with atmosphere!
In answer to your question on Cook's Inlet.
Yes, it's the same Capt. James Cook.
Google Capt. James Cook on Wikipedia. It's an interesting read on his history.

Great photos... I love the mist. I have always looked at that as being so mysterious and mystical... I just don't see that as often as I would like.
I hope you have a really nice weekend. =)

Wil, I do hope the news from Australia is better today.
I fall in love with your top-photo. Beautiful. Love the rest too. Have a greate weekend:)
I am not one for Halloween, Samhain is closer to the mark. But I have to say I think your header is absolutely marvellous.
Prachtig hoe je speelt met de zon en de mist !
Mooie belichting, ik hou van de manier hoe je ze gebruikt.
Knap!

hug, p
Cute slide show! All the skies look rather spooky but especially the first one. Love that misty look!
Really neat slide show!
Hope everyone is having a Happy Halloween and Blessed Samhain!
Well done, did you see the witches?
O I loved your collection of skies! And those comments just added to the drama! Wonderful!
Love the mysterious banner - very Hallowe'en-ish. I love the day - as it is my birthday - but I don't have any magical powers that I know of. I always have a pumpkin face glowing on the gate post on Hallowe'en. He is still there today but looking a bit dejected.
Those are some incredible skies. Very approproriate for the holiday!
