There are always lots of birds to see if you take a walk along the Esplanade in Cairns. First of all the pelicans, which are present in great numbers, and for a European from the northern part of Europe, they are more than interesting. If you have a closer look at the enlarged photo you can see a couple of spoonbills and another waterbird, which I don't know, it looks like a heron. The odd seagull is always present, but in Holland we have more of them. What I thought remarkable was the fact that two budgies were sitting in the grass not far from where we were walking. They were so much interested in each other that I could easily take a photo!

I love the pictures of the birds, and today especially the pelicans, because yesterday we saw some here in our little corner of the world, but I couldn't get close enough to take a fantastic picture like yours. But, I was thrilled to see them nevertheless.

I love the pelicans. We don't get to see pelicans around here, so I am glad that you shared these pictures with us. Thank you.

BTW, I could not access your blog from the critters site. I don't know if anyone else is having a problem or it is just me. Lisa

Wow--what a bunch of peligans!

BTW, I don't know if it is just my computer or an error, but I could not access this page from Camera Critters meme. I googled to find it.

Never mind, I see someone else had problems also.

I love the second to the last picture... it's like the bird is "walking on the park."

Terrific images!
Love the coloring of the pelicans and that seagull seems to be strutting just for your camera.
The budgies are the cutest!

Wow I'm really drawn to those pelican shots. Don't get those up here in the northeast so they're a bit foreign to me. Love the way you were able to photo the whole group of them.

I think I had commented on this post.

Where has it gone ?

The pelican was an emblem on "Louis's" favorite car, the Packard. For many years, a pelican was the hood ornament on a Packard, though it was not used on the model "Louis" shows in the link above.

"Louis" has a seagull in his Odd Shot.
