The Australian Brush Turkey.
The Australian Brush Turkey.Other names: Brush Turkey, Scrub Turkey, Wild Turkey.
They live in closed forest from Cape York in Queensland to Woolongong in New South Wales. Most of my daughter's 16 hectare large property consists of rainforest, which houses among other creatures Brush Turkeys. A few of them have become tame, and as soon as the ducks are being fed, they appear and try to get some of the ducks'food. That's why it was not difficult to take photos and a short video.
This bird is between 60 and 70 cm long.
The eggs are incubated in large mounds of vegetable matter built by the male.

A different colour but similar in size and shape to a phesant. Pleasing colours.
Interesting. Are they like our American turkeys? Are they edible?
i enjoy the video and great shots :D
Please drop at my CC post also: in HERE. Thanks
Does your daughter ever capture one and kill it for dinner, or is this something they don't eat?
I like the male's colours - he's almost exotic looking - almost LOL
I'm a veggie so I won't ask how they taste, just say they look smaller.
The Brush Turkey had pretty colors around his neck. Very nice.
Hey, you gonna let those old ducks eat your dinner? :D

I've never seen a turkey like that. Pretty colors on their heads.
To answer chrisc and jonj and Patty's question: my daughter never kills an animal and she is a veggie like Babooshka.
Such a beautiful big bird,
thank you for sharing this delightful encounters! :-)
Great shots! The turkey seems to be maintaining a decent distance from the ducks. :)
I love the botanical pictures down the side of your site, Reader wil. Also the picture of windmills across the top. I have friends in Hillegom and they send me pictures of the glorious Netherlands scenery - it all looks so clean and wholesome.
I learned today that Australia has wild turkeys. That's what I like about blogging, learning new things. ;-)
I enjoyed the photos and the video. Apparently the ducks don't get along with the turkey?
Cool captures! I have never seen one before.
What an awesome and amazing looking turkey! I would love to have a chance to see the critters of your land someday!
That is a very interesting bird and I enjoyed the video.
