Monastry of Kassariani

This monastry and the church were dedicated to The Presentation of Mary.

It was founded in the 11th century. In 1458 when Sultan Mehmet II conquered Athens, the monastry had been exempted from tax, in appreciation of the fact that the abbot had given the keys of the city to the sultan. Greece was occupied by Turkey from 1453 till 1832.
The frescoes are from the 16th and 17th century
