Memorials
When we were in England this year we stayed in Withern- Alford. The first day we were met in Hull by my brother-in-law. It was a long trip to his house in Withern, but he still had some time to show us the airport for the gliding club in Lincolnshire . We heard that this was an important airfield during WW II. From this place the Lancaster bombers flew to Germany to drop their bombs on the German cities. There are several memorials to remind us of this period. It is remarkable to see and read how young these pilots and other crew members were.
We saw a painting of one of the bombers, made by one of the members of the gliding club.

Such a loss of promising young men. So sad. When will we ever learn. It is a fitting memorial.

So sad so many young lives were lost. My Dad was 21 when he went into the RCAF and trained other pilots to fly overseas. Thankfully, he never saw action but he did patrol the east coast of Canada for submarines and airplanes. He never talked about the war because he lost so many of his friends in it. Wonderful memorial, Wil.

Your father did a great job, Leslie. At that time my father sailed from Canada to other allied countries taking weapons and soldiers to the UK, Australia and Canada.
That's a wonderful tribute to the brave pilots. That's good that they put photos of them to remind us of how they looked.

It sure 'hits home' when you read all the names of the
young men who lost their lives in a futile war, so sad.
My first husband's father was in the RCAF he was a flight
sergeant (rear gunner) in a Lancaster bomber.
Sadly he was shot down over Holland where his grave is.

My Dad was a radio tower operator in WWII and helped guide those planes in.
