ABC Wednesday, F for Flying

Travelling to Australia before the war, or even a long time after the war, meant travelling by ship. Now it is normal to fly to all distant countries and also to the not so far away places.

But a flight in a helicopter is still quite exciting. I have been in a helicopter when I was in New Zealand in 2005. Together with my two eldest grandchildren we flew over a glacier on the South Island.
These two photos were taken in Cairns.

This was the helicopter that took us
to the Franz Josef  Glacier in New Zealand in  January 2005.

It actually landed on the glacier and gave us plenty of time to play in the snow.

We thank Denise Nesbitt, who created ABC, and we must thank Roger too for the weekly job to find  ten bloggers for each of the ABC Team members  to visit and to read their posts. We are beginning to find another round for all the 26 letters of the alphabet. This will be now the letter F

A ride in a helicopter is on my bucket list! Your flight must have been fantastic - landing right on the glacier to play! Wow! I'm envious. Are you home now?

What as great experience, Wil. I used to enjoy flying, in theold days, - find it very much like a can of sardines now and I don't morph into as fish too well!

I have been in a helicopter, and I doubt I'll ever do it again! Yikes! Not good for people with PTSD, I suppose... but this trip, yes, I venture to say, for that view, that experience - and especially with my own daughter - I would probably brave the whirligig once more. Thanks so much! Amy

I have never been on a helicopter. Seems like scary and fun at the same time. Landing on the glacier must have been so exciting specially for the kids.

I walked one and half hours to Franz Josef Glacier . It was raining and cold, but when we reached there, it was worth it. We had budgeted using the helicopter. I am sure it was fun.

As usual Will, you have some beautiful photos. I haven't been getting around to many blogs, not like I use to, I do go to Facebook everyday. Hope you and family have been well.

Oh, I do love these photos.
I have only been on a helicopter once and that was 52 years ago on our honeymoon. My goodness...that was a long time ago!

You are so daring Wil,
I once had the opportunity to have a helicopter ride but I'm
ashamed, to say, I chickened out. Which meant my husband
missed it too.
I felt so guilty, spoiling his treat and I did
ask him to go but he didn't want to leave me alone.
Such a sweetie!
Your pictures are grand, I would have enjoyed the views
but sadly not the ride,

Best wishes,
Di.

Fly in a helicopter. That's on my list of things I want to do. Your photos are amazing. So cool to not only fly there in a helicopter, but to get out and play in the snow.

Comme je montre sur mon dernier post, mes petits-enfants et moi ont vu beaucoup d’avions dernièrement. Mais faire un vol dans un hélicoptère – cela doit être vraiment une aventure mémorable

My goodness! I have never flown in a helicopter so I was already impressed at that, but to have landed and played on a glacier with two of your grandchildren! What a memory!

Wow -- your grandchildren are so fortunate to have an adventurous healthy grandmother! Good for you. I would love to take a helicopter ride some day.

Melody (abc-w-team)
