Voters cast their ballots at polling stations across Edinburgh as the Scottish vote on independence opened on Thursday. Polling opened across Scotland at 07:00 local time (06:00 GMT) and will close at 22:00 local time (21:00 GMT).

Ninety-seven percent of eligible Scots are registered to vote in today's referendum on whether or not to leave the United Kingdom and become fully independent. Voters will must answer either yes or no to one question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" Official national results are expected to be announced on Friday morning, though regional results could start coming as of 02:00 local time (01:00 GMT).

I like the melody and the poetical beginning of this song. The end however is violent but I can understand it. Of course I prefer a referendum to a bloody battle.

Business and money will probably decide, what currency will they choose if independent ? And working in the UK will become complicated too. The trouble is little farmers in the mountains only see their kilts !

Another thing: Will they need a new passport? What about sheep farmers who have their sheep grazing on fields that are partly English and partly Scottish. Are fences needed to keep cattle in the country they belong to?
Can't Scotland get self-government,like Australia, Canada and New-Zealand?

wow...this is a nail biting experience for so many I guess. It will be interesting to see the outcome. Kinda like the USSR, but more cordial I guess.

Nice post Wil. It looks like the vote was not passed for independence. I would love to know more about Scotland mainly because my maiden name is Scottish. Mac Millon. I am working on my genealogy... but have not gotten back to any of the countries my ancestors are from....yet. Have a great day!
