Malaysia Airlines flight MH17

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 has crashed in Ukraine, on the border with Russia, with 298 people onboard. Ukraine's interior ministry says the plane was shot down by a missile.

All day long Dutch TV has been dominated by the news that a passengerplane had crashed in the Ukraine. 298 People were killed, among them 189 Dutch. But also people from the UK, Australia, Phillipines. These were all innocent people, going on a holiday, even on a honeymoon, or to a conference in Australia. The plane flew at a height of at least 10 or 11 kms. This was permitted.

I don't understand why we are now involved in the war between the two groups in the Ukraine. The leader who can stop this conflict peacefully deserves all possible honour and a statue.

So very sad, - so many places in the world where peace is just a nebulous ideal.

As soon as I heard this tragic news, I thought of you and knew it would hit your country the hardest as you had the greatest loss.
I will never understand war and why it is considered OK for innocents to die.
My deepest sympathies to all those whose who lost their lives but also to the families whose lives were forever ruined by an uncaring individual in a matter of seconds.
