Our World Tuesday, ABC Wednesday, W for Whale

The whale has swam the ocean since the dawn of time

If now the seas are red with blood then how is the crime

Save the whale that has a right to live and breed

Stop the men in the whaling boats who kill for greed

The hunter has no consciense as he raged the sea

The victim has no friend, only you and me

If we raise our voices we can right the wrong

Let the world join together now and sing our song

The earth in all its beauty is for all to share

For people and the animals everywhere

We say no to needless death by gun or knife

Every whale in the waters has a right to life

We say no to needless death by gun or knife

Every whale in the waters has a right to life

We must realize that if we destroy the whale

We will destroy part of ourselves

If we don't stop the slaughter now

Tomorrow will be too late

Tomorrow the largest living thing on earth

Will be lost forever and we shall all be guilty

The earth in all its beauty is for all to share

For people and the animals everywhere

We say no to needless death by gun or knife

Every whale in the waters has a right to life

We say no to needless death by gun or knife

Every whale in the waters has a right to life

When I was in New Zealand in 2005, I had the chance to see whales. The Maori guide on the boat  told us all about the three  whales we saw. They were  sperm-whales. It was quite an exciting experience to see such  enormous creatures.

Many years ago we were already members of World Wildlife Fund. We bought a record with Kamahl singing the song of "Save the Whale".

The Sperm-Whale is as big as a Boeing 737

The contents of his head is so big that it can contain an adult male elephant,

his heart is as big as a small car.

He is 18 meters long.

He feeds on giant octopuses

We see orcas off the coast here and I've seen grey whales off the coast of Cape Cod. They are truly amazing creatures and need our help to survive from those who want to harm them.

Lucky you to have seen the whales when you were in New Zealand Wil. I have yet to see any whales but I sure hope to during my future travels - they are magnificent creatures.

Great post, Wil - we have a nephew, Dr. Fred Sharpe, who is very involved in researching whales, their habitat and their conservation. Well, conversations too...

It is one of the most wonderous things to see whales swimming in the oceans - we are lucky living here in Australia to be able to whale watch. Great W post.

Interesting and touching post about the Whale, such enormous creatures too, yet so elegant.
It's a pity they don't turn over the wicked hunters boats.... that would soon teach them!

best wishes,
Di.

Whales are some of my first experiences of feeling awed for the first time when I was little. Huge! Wonderful and beautiful mammals.

Beautiful post. Whales are marvelous. I've always wanted to witness a whale, but I live in a landlocked state. Spent some time on Guam, but never saw a wild whale. Something I need to do in my life.

Glad you saw our whale. And I hope they will stop the Japanese from killing them.

We have seen several whales up here in Alaska where we are traveling, but not yet well enough to get pictures. I so agree with everything you say about their being hunted WE should all know better by now.
