ABC Wednesday, L of Literature Quiz

Quiz : Who has written these lines? Can you  mention the titles of the books? You could use Google of course, but wouldn't it be nice if you did it all by yourself? I am sure this quiz is not difficult.

1. O brave new world,

That has such people in it..

( used by two authors)

2. ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL

BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS.

3.It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness...

4. To be or not to be...

5.The Road goes ever on and on

Down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with eager feet,

Until it joins some larger way

Where many paths and errands meet.

And whither then? I cannot say.

6.Old  Marley was as dead as a doornail.

7. Oh, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet.....

8.Jack:May I ask you then what you would advise me to do? I need hardly say I would do anything in the world to ensure Gwendolen's happiness.

Lady B.: I would strongly advise you,Mr W., to try  and acquire some relations as soon as possible, and to make a definite effort to produce at any rate one parent, of either sex, before the season is quite over.

9.Please Sir may I have some more?

10. "Petrificus  Totalus"..."Impedimenta! Incarcerus!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the authors, some of them  have used two or more of the quotations,

and one quotation was used by two authors.

 Rudyard Kipling

William Shakespeare

Oscar Wilde

 J.K. Rowling

Charles Dickens

Aldous Huxley

J.R.R. Tolkien

George Orwell

I am looking forward to seeing your answers!

What a great idea to have a literature quiz. And what choices you've given us to ponder!

Dang, I don't think I did well. I got a few but not enough to pass unless you grade on the curve. Of course when I saw the authors I could connect the dots. What a fun quiz. Thanks for the memory jog.

I recognised the drawing from your thumbnail link as 'Oliver Twist' before I clicked on your blog - do I get extra points for that?
Tolkein, # 5, I was sure of - love the poetry in his books. The last one had to be from the Harry Potter books by Rowling.
The others .. not so sure of, but fun trying!
Happy ABC Wednesday!

That was fun, Wil, - I got stuck on No. 8....I see others have attributed it to Oscar Wilde, so I have learned something.

Got them all except the J. K.Rowling. Not a fan of Harry Potter but love the Oscar Wilde one. Fun!

Sorry Wil. Your English is so perfect that I forget there is every reason you wouldn't know our slang.
Teachers here will grade "on the curve" if the whole class did poorly on a test. She will take the highest score, even if it only had 80% of the answers correct and make that the standard for an A (which should be at least 90 or 95% correct). Not sure what symbol you use for the best score. Then the teacher lowers all the corresponding grades accordingly so that some one who might have received a normally non- passing grade will be given a better mark. Hope that explains and I will be more careful of my slang terms in the future. Really enjoyed your post.

Did not "ace" the test, but it was fun nonetheless.

Well, I don't think I'm even going to try. Some I knew immediately, and most I recognized but couldn't place them all.
Excellent quiz, though, Wil, and there were days when I would have thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I'll just be happy that I know the person who posted the quiz!
Thank you for being my friend.
