ABC Wednesday, Q for Quirinius

After a lot of thinking, I thought I might use somebody from the bible , whose name starts with Q. After all I was in Israel in March and this country has made a great impression on me. So off we go... I found the name of Quirinius with the help of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia says:
Publius Sulpicius Quirinius ( c. 51 BC - AD 21) was a Roman aristocrat. After the banishment of the ethnarch Herod Archelaus from the tetrarchy of Judea in AD 6, Quirinius was appointed legate governor of Syria, to which the province of Iudaea had been added for the purpose of a census.

The Gospel of Luke links the birth of Jesus to a "world-wide" census ordered by Augustus carried out while Quirinius was governor of Syria. This is thought to be a reference to the census of Judea in 6/7 AD; however, Luke also, like the Gospel of Matthew, dates the birth to the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 BC, ten years before the census of 6 or 7 AD.

Complicated? Yes! But Q is a complicated letter!

We started round 11 of the fascinating meme of ABC, created by Mrs. Nesbitt, and now continued by Roger!. For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar . This week we are looking for words beginning with Q.

Yeah, that period was confusing. Jesus might have been born as early as 7 B.C.

Wil, my husband is a pastor, and I studied along with him. As he says, holding up the Bible, "All of this is true. Some of it happened!"

No one will ever be able to decipher all the years, etc., and I love your research, trying to pin something down. Great Q on you! Amy
