Our World Tuesday, ABC Wednesday K for Kagerplassen.

When my daughter and her family were here in 2010, I asked her Australian partner: "Well, what do you think of the Netherlands?"
He answered :"Well, it is very flat and there is so much water. And you live so close together. And the people are very nice"! That is all true and here is a slide to show you part of the watery province of South Holland, where I live.

Last year we made a trip with  our choir to a very wet part of the Netherlands, which we could best see from the deck of a riverboat. The weather was fine, warm and sunny and we  loved the trip on the Kagerplassen. We took photos of the beatiful houses  and places on the water and around the lakes of Kaag. If you want to enlarge the slide, please press first the red word  You Tube, and then the rectangle in the right bottom corner!

Recreation on the island Koudenhoorn in the Kaag lakes

The Kagerplassen (a Dutch term meaning "the Kaag Lakes") is a small lake system in South Holland located to the northeast of Leiden. The Kaag Lakes are a popular area for boating, watersports, fishing, camping and walking. Windmills, waterfront pasture land (weilanden) with grazing animals, quaint Dutch boats and buildings and (in season) flower fields are all part of the charm of boating and walking in this area.

Welcome to Our World Tuesday! This meme continues in memory of the work of Klaus Peter, whose "that's My World" brought people together from around the world every Monday to share the wonders therein--big and small. Please click on our new logo for "Our World Tuesday" in the sidebar.

With thanks to Denise Nesbitt, who created ABC, and thank you too, Roger! For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar . This week we are looking for words beginning with K.

I love the Netherlands Wil. Any country that has such a wonderful collection of Van Gogh's AND Rembrandt's Night Watch gets my vote every time. I still get a thrill when I think of seeing them all.
Our friends from Hillegom always like to visit the parks and open spaces when they come as they say your country is so crowded that there is not much room for such things. No, but you habe wonderful marshland with fantastic birds. Every country has its plus and minus points.
We also have Dutch neighbours and they gave us Stroopwafels with our coffee the other day - now that is a real plus!! Delicious.

The other thing I noticed about your country is that the people are so TALL! I felt even shorter when I was there. One of the guys in our tour group couldn't use the urinal in a pub and had to go into the women's bathroom. It was rather funny.

I love your country. Amsterdam has to be one of my favourite cities with the magnificent art galleries and your beautiful waterways. Thank you for showing me a little more of your country.

Oh my Wil, what a lovely place to live.
I dream of visiting there one day.
A perfect choice for the letter K.

'Kagerplassen' it looks so classic with letter K used instead of C. Thanks for the fast facts.

Oh Wil, I did enjoy that watery journey, - so different to our semi-desert countryside, and so very orderly and civilized. Lovely!
