ABC Wednesday, W for windows

“This is my modest gift to the Jewish people who have always dreamt of biblical love, friendship and of peace among all peoples. This is my gift to that people which lived here thousands of years ago among the other Semitic people.” ( Marc Chagall)

When Dina asked me:"What would you like to see?" I answered that I should love to see the Chagall windows in the synagogue of the hospital near Jerusalem. It is the Hadassah hospital, where all medical faculties are situated. Recently a new wing has been opened. The Chagall windows represent the 12 tribes of Israel.

Hadassah is blessed with many works of art that enhance the hallways and halls, passages and public spaces; the countless paintings, sculptures and drawings grace both  campuses.

With thanks to Denise Nesbitt, who created ABC. For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar. This week we are looking for words beginning withW.

Oh, how beautiful, Wil!! I, too, had heard of them, but hadn't seen any pictures -- let alone the real thing! Your captures are the next best thing! Thank you for sharing!! Wonder post for the W Day!

Amazing, glorious windows.
You were so fortunate to be able to see them in person.
I love the vivid colors.
To answer your question. The buildings are made of wood and very sturdy, not just facades. We have some fantastic artists and construction people at our church. When the sessions are finished next month, 4000 kids from kindergarten through 6th grade will have come on campus. It takes lots of hard work and organization to handle that many children.

The workmanship in these windows is exquisite Wil and the colours would look so beautiful with the sunshining through them.

I can’t imagine a life with no windows. Usually the world can be seen through a window but in this instance the windows suffice as beautiful works of art with a message. :)

Great post. And, for those of us who can't get to Jerusalem, if your close to the Chicago area there are some great Chagall windows at the Institute of Art!
