The Sint Janskerk in Gouda, the Netherlands, is a large Gothic church, known especially for its stained glass windows, for which it has been placed on the UNESCO list of Dutch monuments.

Inspired by a post by Eric Tenin of a Parisian doorway, «Louis» began posting on Mondays photos he had taken of doorways in Paris. To participate click on

The 1st. doorway to St. Janskerk is particularly beautiful. I just love that squat gothic arch. Baroque may have been spectacular and grandiose with all it's gold but for uplifting the soul, give me gothic any day.
clearly a newere, or better refurbished, door than building - they actually looks a bit out of synch
What a beautiful door, the work of a real craftsman. Truly a lost art.
You often post pictures of Gouda Wil - do you live near to it?
«Louis» would like to see the stained glass in this church.
He thanks you for your contribution to Monday Doorways.
;-D
I really like the entrance in your first photo. The second entrance seems completely different. Was it added at a later date?
I love seeing the special UNESCO localities. They are all so wonderful. Thanks for St. Janskerk.
Such a beautiful doorway and lovely old church! Great captures as always, Wil! So much wonderful history and architecture in your part of our world! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful doorways.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
I like both of those doorways very much. Interesting to see the different styles.
Beautiful doorways with lots of character - delightful!
A beautiful old place with great old doors, Wil.
I'll be thinking of you tomorrow when I meet up with Mara for a couple of days of exploring Alberta. I'm sure there will be photos!

Doorways are such interesting subjects, particularly the old one. I like your captures.
Outstanding entrances!
That's quite a place!
The main entry is quite impressive. I wonder how many craftsmen to day could recreate such work.
What an impressive church. I bet the stained glass windows look fabulous.
Intriguing old doorways and love the the style of the old church too! Lots of character!
Looks like a nice town, I have never been in Gouda !
Churches to me look all the same, there was such a lot of money spent on them while people were starving. Not the Christian way I suppose, lol !
I agree with Arija - Baroque is a bit too much.Churches seem to have the best doors, don't they?!
