ABC Wednesday, H for Honesty.

Posted by Picasa

The tulip is the most honest flower. It does not promise empty promises and it is simple and exactly what it looks like.

I often asked myself:"What is honesty?" Is it saying what you think. May be! Is it saying what you think without being asked to give your opinion? Only when it's a positively kind remark. If I don't like something, I don't say what I think unless it's a political or religious statement and then only if I don't hurt someone's feeling., but never about somebody's house or clothes or blogs. Lots of people think that you must be honest in the sense of criticizing all the time without being asked.Well, no! There is no need to do that. Ignore the things you don't like, and there is always something that you like in one's house or on one's blog.
A friend of mine used to say when he didn't like something in my house:" It's interesting!", because he knew that I like my house and he didn't want to hurt my feelings. He was a kind man, a good friend. So what do you think about honesty?

Here are some quotes of famous people!

If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything. ~Mark Twain

Who lies for you will lie against you. ~Bosnian Proverb

No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar. ~Abraham Lincoln
Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be sure there is one less rascal in the world. ~Thomas Carlyle

A half truth is a whole lie. ~Yiddish Proverb

Truth is tricky. Some people use "honesty" as a club: "You look terrible, if I'm being honest."

That said, I learned long ago that lying is just too cmplicated.

If you ask for my honest opinion, I will try to give it but even then it will be tempered so as not to hurt anyone.
I do agree with Mark Twain, I really don't have the memory to carry off a lie.

I am as honest as I can be...I can't lie because my face shows exactly what I'm thinking!

I never thought of tulips as being "honest" flowers! I'm glad you wrote about honesty today because I was thinking of doing it, but decided to shake things up a bit and go negative with my poem. But I did research "honesty" and believe you've made some really good points here. Have a heavenly week, Wil.

Thanks for an interesting post. I honestly like your thoughts on honesty. I don't think being honest means you have to be cruel or hurt someones feelings. I like that Mark Twain quote.

My parents and grandparents used to tell us, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
I spent a lot of time not saying anything because I was so shy.
This is a very interesting word to bring up for the letter H, my friend.
I hope you are well.

One of the qualities I loved about my future husband when I met him in college...was his integrity. We've been married 50 years, and he is still a very, very honest man.

"Honesty is the best policy" a lesson that lingers in me from a teacher in elementary.

Well Wil I don't really know about that. White lies we call it here. If my friend asked me whether she looked nice in her dress and I thought she looked terrible - am I honest or am I kind? It is always a dilemma. But I do think it is important to be honest is the most important issues.

I think of tulips as being beautiful in an elegant way. But I think I can understand how you think of them as honest, too.

I ordered some tulips via interflora to Australia. Then after I had done it, I thought, perhaps though it is a good spring flower, it doesn't last very long. I should have ordered orchids instead.

Hehehe, you now know me, a Value for money person.

I used to teach this to my children, only I didn't know it was from Mark Twain. I know Mark Twain for the adventures of Tom Sawyer, a book I learned in school when i was 12.

Great post. I love tulips and loved the quotes. I so agree with Honest Abe - which is why I don't lie...my memory just isn't good enough.

Oh, yes, I know one of those people who uses honesty as a weapon. He hasn't got many friends.

There's a very fine line between not hurting people's feelings (i.e. telling a white lie) and lying... I guess that even just telling half a truth is still a kind of lie?
