Psalms Challenge, Psalm 22

A psalm by David, Suffering

1 My God, my God, why have you

deserted me?

Why are you so far away?

Won't you listen to my groans

and come to my rescue?

2 I cry out day and night,

but you don't answer,

and I can never rest
.

This psalm ends in praising God. Many people don't come further than the first two verses. I hope that somebody post the praising verses at the end of the psalm.
Jesus on the cross spoke the first verse and when he died he praised God. Amazing!
The song on the video deals with the first two verses and the melody sounds very sad and appeals to me now.

The verses from Psalm 22 are contributed to Robert's Psalms Challenge meme at Daily Athens. To read more psalms click on Robert

Thanks for the beautiful music.

Your observations, in just a few sentences, are so true and profound.

Happy birthday to your son.

But those middle verses ARE also harsh, before one gets to the end:

Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

That is dreadfully sad. Roger's addition of the middle verses are even more down. It seems at that time, David was a beaten man.

Ik vind de nederlandse vertaling prachtig. Het koor zingt zo mooi met verdriet in hun stemmen. Dit stuk past bij ons regenachtige weer vandaag.

Thank you for sharing this psalm with us. I've always been amazed at the way the psalm ends -- there is definitely a lesson for us in that.
I hope your son had a very happy birthday.

This is a wonderful psalm, to me, and I like that you drew attention to not just the first verses, but all of it.

I also love that view in your header on your blog!
