Sunday Bridges, Netherlands, Windmills.

I stay with the windmills, where I met Kay from Canada. This bridge leads to the visitors'mill in which you can get a fairly good idea what it was like to live and work there. Every tourist can hear an explanation of daily life in the mill. It is to be heard in various languages. When I came there for the first time it was the miller himself who led us around. He told that living in a mill was very cold in winter as the children slept on a higher floor than mum and dad. The parents slept in the tiny living space in a box bed, often with a kind of cot on a shelf for the baby . Mind you these mills were used to pump the water away from the polder and to prevent the people from drowning.

Fascinating. And you once got to meet the miller himself.

Had no idea anyone lived in a windmill. Really interesting but sounds like cramped living.

that's a lovely windmill and bridge. It must be a very cramped living space though

This was so much fun to read, Wil. I remember going into one of those windmills, but I didn't realize a whole family would live in them. It seemed quite cramped.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I asked for you to show us some more photos of the inside of these wonderful windmills and you did. I am like a child in a candy store with them. They are like doll houses to me....magical. Your photos are wonderful and capture the images so beautifully I feel like I am there. Bud is out biking, but the minute he comes in I will share these with him. He love your other post.

A charming interior -- like living on a boat!

when I was a kid in Borneo, we remembered Holland and the windmills.
