ABC Wednesday, S for Sixties

This year I bought a book about the Sixties and put it on the table for all visitors to read. Well "read" is too big a word, it's more a picture book, for even my Danish friends enjoyed viewing it, because they recognized many of the articles from the sixties. I must confess that, with the exception of some crockery and clothes, I never bought anything of those articles. My furniture was more Ikea like. I had a different taste, I think. I didn't like the pastel colours and the asymmetric shapes of, for instance, the alarm clocks, lamps, vases or ashtrays.

With thanks to Denise Nesbitt, who created ABC.For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar or Here. This week we are looking for words beginning with S.

What a collection.
TV came late to you, eh?
It looks like the music was the best part of the 60s.

I have several old catalogs from the 60's. You did great with your slide show. I should do that with mine so that they can be forever saved. I am glad that I lived my teens in the 60's. So fun and lots of memories.

Great post for the S Day, Wil! The 60s was an interesting period that's for sure. I married in the 60s and had my first two children in the 60s and lived in Europe, so it was different from the 60s here in the states. Great slide show for the day! Hope your week is going well!

Great idea for the letter S. My social consciousness was formed during the sixties although being born in 1957 I was young during that decade.

Things changed a lot during the sixties, and many of the styles have returned in bits and pieces since then It was fun to see some of them again and watch what we wore, ate and had. :-)

No, I was not a particular fan of the sixties either Wil - in fact they almost passed me by - I was busy bringing up my son.

I sure enjoyed your slide show through the 60s, Wil. I remember so many things that looked just like that, and they were ultra-modern when I was a teenager. (I also remember when we didn't have TV.)

That was fun. We had pretty much the same things and the same stars. Think your teens were cleaner cut however.
And ashtrays, can't remember the last one I have seen.

Loved the slide show. So much of this Mid-century Modern design is now extremely popular with youth in their 20s and 30s. Even the sheaths that Michelle Obama has made popular revives the fashion of the early 60s. What goes around, comes around?

The 60s and the idea of sleek and modern of that time always make me smile. Thanks for this post. It kicked up some memories.

What a lot of wonderful memories! I used to wear hats in the sixties, - and sometimes white gloves. But
it was a time of great change, and we had teen age children, some of whom were influenced by the 'hippies' who came to work for us- well, I was too. It was when I started to weave and use natural dyes and this was as a result of talking to the young woman who were living 'back to nature'.

The sixties was my growing up decade so this feels very familiar.

I guess this was before Barbie had cosmetic surgery.
I love this choice for S. I was born as the tale end of the sixties, in Dec. 69 so I did not live them. But I do love some of the music from that era.

Yes I remember the 60s - I was only 5-15 back then though. My favourite nostalgia decade would be the 70s.

You brought me back into my 20th ! At that time I wasn't interested in household stuff or furniture, but I notice that these things are become modern again.
I was more interested in fashion and dancing and Rock 'n Roll !

I prefer your header to anything the Sixties had to offer.

Oh my, I was married in 1964. Everything is all too familiar. I'm so glad we have moved on from some of the styles of that era.

I'm sure the sixties would have been a very interesting time to live in.
I think i would have taken the side of rock and roll
