that's My World, ABC Wednesday I for IKEA
I think that you all know IKEA . These are some of the things we bought at IKEA. We like it because it's strong, modern, Scandinavian and not expensive.
Here is a bit about the history of IKEA.
IKEA was founded in 1943 by 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad in Sweden, named as an acronym comprising the initials of the founder's name (Ingvar Kamprad ), the farm where he grew up (Elmtaryd), and his home parish (Agunnaryd, in Småland, South Sweden). It is a privately held, Swedish international home products company. It designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture and anything we need to furnish a house with, like crockery, cutlery and curtains.IKEA is the largest furniture retailer in the world.
My grandson was moving house and wanted his room furnished in black. So far we found a black carpet, a black chair, and black cupboards, but a lovely red hassock, which could serve as a table. The other photos were taken at IKEA's itself and show a variety of garden benches.

Oh, this is a great one, Wil! I LOVE Ikea! We're fortunate to have several of their stores in our area and it's always fun to go shop there! Fun post for both days! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!
Sylvia
Boy do I feel left out, I have never heard of IKEA. I guess that is what I get for living in small towns in the sticks.
I do like the clean lines though and really liked that table and bench.
Now if someone brings it up in conversation, I won't give a blank stare. Thanks. I always learn here.
I love the red hassock. I've never been to Ikea.
My kids love "photoshooting" in Ikea (I posted them once). They pretend to be cooks, food taster and boss complete with props e.g. tables, cookware, chairs and books lol
Ikea; every is beautiful. :) Love their food too!
IKEA was started by a teenager, during the war?! Wow, what a success story!
Sadly, one of Israel's huge IKEA stores burned down last month.
I love to visit Ikea and have many items, I have never been able to visit without buying something.
Hi again...(reply to your comment) I totally understand your point there...
I am grateful that you found in your heart the forgiveness that others lack. Considering your experience, it is not something easy to forget...I commend you because you have first hand experience of the war yet you chose to be kind.....unlike the others who commented here:

Bless your heart...
There is no IKEA in New Zealand. My expat friends in Singapore love IKEA.
One thing is no good about the furniture, once you assemble them, you can't dismantle them. But then, they are so cheap.
Wonderful, Wil, I also love Ikea, but the nearest one is now a 3-hour drive away. When I lived in the Vancouver suburbs I liked to go to Ikea for lunch!

In Charlotte, NC USA, the Ikea is so large that it has it's own drive. You can find it on the exit signs!

I've never actually been but i hear they are great value for money.
An answer to all of those overpriced furniture stores you see everywhere
awesome introduction of the subject,
lovely place to visit.
Happy ABC Wednesday.
Indeed, we see IKEA everywhere. My daughter bought a lot thing from IKEA and have to stop by IKEA at New Jersey when they drive up from Washington DC to Cape Cod to see us. It has a great kids corner for my granddaughter to run around. We have IKEA in Taipei too. Our bedroom sheets, pillows and comforters are all from IKEA.
I hate the crowds at IKEA but I do like their stuff!
Toen mijn dochters op kamers gingen wonen om te studeren kochten we ook altijd alles bij IKEA!!!!
Je kan er uren winkelen :-)
I love how you've decorated with your IKEA purchases. Your home looks very warm and comfortable.
Nice furniture I went often to Ikea and when I first went to live on myself everything was from Ikea
un post sponsorise par Ikea ;o))
J'aime beaucoup aussi les meubles Ikea

We are getting an IKEA in Denver this year and I am so excited! Can't wait to shop!
Great choice for I!!!!!!
Nice stuff! Though I've certainly heard of it, I've never been in an IKEA store.
I've never bought IKEA. Don't know why.
Love IKEA's Furniture!! They look very practical and easy to maintain.
Why, you've gone for IKEA in a big way. We finally got one of their stores here in the Twin Cities several years ago.
Beautiful lines in Idea - the furniture is so simple and sturdy and affordable.
Ah, IKEA! We sometimes go to the local store just for a "lookaround" and to get ideas. They have great food, too! :D

IKEA is coming, next year they are opening a store an hour and a half from my house. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!!
I want to be locked in the store for a night and just go crazy.
I miss the IKEA store near my California home. Now that I have moved to Washington State I understand that there is one in Seattle, but I have not yet been to it. I loved their cafeteria with Swedish meat-balls and wonderful coffee and pastries. I also own several pieces of IKEA furniture - beautiful blond wood, but somewhat difficult to assemble.
I love IKEA and never knew where the name came from. Thanks for giving some history.
Great pictures of your home and its furnishings. You have got a lot of books!
Your Grandson is fortunate to have you helping him furnish is place.
Interesting to get a company from my own country reflected back from abroad... ;)
I love your choices. Since the closest Ikea is nearly a day's drive from me, I've never visited the store but I do cruise their catalog. Didn't know the history and am pleased to learn it. Thanks!
Oh yes I know IKEA, I can can see my IKEA side tables from where I'm sitting! We have store in Southampton not far from me. A great choice for an I
I've always loved Ikea stuff, or rather I did until I read that Mr Kamprad is a bit of a tartar!
thank you; yes we are still afloat. I repaired my blog for today so you can now see the boat going up and down at the dock.
Warm Aloha & Gratitude from Honolulu!

We have an Ikea here, 2 big sites in opposite direction of the island. I love going there just to browse through.
Interesting!
Please come and see my ABC Wednesday post, thanks!
Who doesn't love Ikea!
It's about time I made another visit.
I love Ikea-it is ingenious. I wish we had a store here in New Mexico.
I really miss IKEA! We used to go all the time in Chicago but they don't that this store in Hawaii. The founder was 17 years old? Wow!
By the way, I was excited to see your header. It looked familiar. We were in Gouda! Yae! What fun to see it!
I am in the minority here. I really don't like Ikea. It's not the furniture, it's an advert they once ran here in England - maybe I was having a bad day, but I found it tasteless and unfunny and I've never forgotten it. It has given me a real antipathy for the company, and I've never bought anything from them! Silly, huh? But I never was an advertiser's dream ...
The furniture itself looks great! And I've heard their meatballs are pretty good, too. LOL!
I have still never been to an Ikea store!
Donna
Beautiful photos of your living room and dining room. I've never been to the store, but several of our daughter shop there all the time. Guess I will have to see if I can go along some day. Today is laundry day for me and it's almost time to fix a bite of lunch. Have a great evening.
An I that is currently of high interest around here. Our 30 years old IKEA store was too small, and now they have forced the local council (admittedly highly conservative/reactionary) into "redecorating" many square kilometres of Bergen (in Åsane since you that know the area) into a mixture of concrete, asphalt and general ugliness.
I love their style and quality, too. Your home is beautiful.
great stuff, you have there! really beautiful!

Il y a un IKEA ici à Atlanta mais comme nous n’avons pas besoin de meubles, au contraire nous devrions nous débarasser de nos affaires, nous n’y allons pas souvent, mais j’aime bien ce magasin.
What a splendidly spotless house you have. Did you have to do a lot of tidying before you took your photos?
IKEA is a shop everybody must use at some time in their lives, their lines are clean and simple, the furniture is good and durable and it even looks good.
I didn't know IKEA was the largest furniture retailer in the world. It was interesting to learn the origin of the name, too. What an imaginative young man Ingvar was.
That living room and kitchen remind me of some special moments in your sweet and warm home! And your coffee, sweets and biscuits! And finally a happy, hospitable and kind face who welcomed us and made the house more beautiful!!!
IKEA has innovative furniture. I never mind putting my purchases together.
What a pretty room in your home Wil. I too have a couple pieces of furniture from IKEA. Did not realize it was the largest furniture retailer!
Love that red hassock - adds a lovely touch of colour.
I also like IKEA but have to travel a long distance to see it in person. So we just look at it on the computer.
Beautiful furniture and great pictures!
Wow, Wil, your post and choice of subject aroused 54 comments! That is interesting in itself.
There is an IKEA near Chez la Vache. Many of the furnishing of Chez la Vache came from IKEA as did many of the fixtures of «Louis'» espresso shop when he had it. The condo «Louis» <a href="http://pour-la-famille.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html>beforehe moved to France</a> was largely furnished from IKEA.
«Louis» thinks you should post that bridge in your mast head photo to Sunday Bridges. ;-D
If you'll send «Louis» your e-mail address (his is in his profile), he'll tell you more about his espresso shop...
