ABC Wednesday, N for Nyvang

Posted by Picasa

When my sister, her husband and I stayed in Denmark in 2003, we visited Nyvang with our Danish friend. Here we had lunch with him in Nyvang park.

On the map you see the two crosses showing the location of Nyvang

This park is situated on the Isle of Sjaelland/ Zealand( this has nothing to do with New Zealand, which was named after the Dutch province of Zeeland). The Co-operative Village Nyvang in Denmark is a historical centre of experience located in aesthetic surroundings five kilometres from Holbæk.It covers the period from 1870 to 1950. Those were the years that the the co-operative movement had its heyday.
We first saw the mainbuilding, then after a lovely walk the dairy, the smithy and finally the farm, which you can see on the two last photos. My sister, brother-in-law and I were the guests of honour and got coffee in the livingroom. It was there that we met our friend's cousin, who performed the part of farmer's wife.
This year she and her husband, who is the manager of the park, came to see me here. We went to Gouda to see the church. Last year they came here as well and then we went to the windmills.

Denmark is on our list of places to visit Wil - it looks such a fascinating place. I enjoyed your little taste of it here.

Sounds like you not only had an interesting visit with them, but they also had a nice visit with you showing them around at all the windmills. Happy Wednesday.

Those were the day in more ways than one. The cooperative movement was strong in Denmark (and to some extent still is), but like anything else it has been commercialized.

You always have such nice and fun vacations, and then we get to enjoy the wonderful pictures and your memories. Thanks so much every week for sharing a new place, that i personally will never get to visit.

Such a marvelous and interesting post for the N Day, Wil, as always! And it sounds like such a great place to visit. Unfortunately, I think Rune is right, the cooperative movement like so much else has been commercialized -- at least it has here in the states! Hope your week is going well!

Interesting post Wil and perusual, you sent me searching more information about the cooperative movement which I knew little of. Thanks again for tweaking my thirst for knowledge.
I really liked that house in the header and the peaceful scene lunch scene.

Another marvellous looking place.

Wonderful, Wil. I guess "New Zealand" was named after "Zealand" in Denmark, and I always thought it had something to do with the Netherlands.
Learn something new every day, I always say. Thanks.

You really do have the most stunning photos, Wil. I love your header! Is this how New Zealand got its name?

It was like I was there.
Great pictures.

Hi Wil -- Thanks for visiting my blog, and for setting me straight about New Zealand. I thought there was a Netherlands connection, and I was right, but the Danish Zealand confused me. Now I see Tasmania was named after the explorer Tasman from the Netherlands. I love to learn something new every day!
