that's My World, Sail Amsterdam 2010.

Sail Amsterdam is one of the most spectacular shows I have ever seen. My husband, the children and I always went to see the tall ships. Last Thursday, 19 August I saw the arrival of tall ships from all over the world in Amsterdam on TV. The ships will stay here till 23rd August, so today they will leave. Please if you see any mistakes in the names of these ships, feel free to tell me so. In spite of the fact that I am a sailor's daughter, I don't know all those names. I just copy what the newspaper says.

I just love tall ships. They scream romance and adventure. Have never seen them in person however and would love to. How fortunate that you have been able to.

Very nice indeed!!! I adore tall ships - and you have caught my favourite "Statsraad Lehmkuhl" of Bergen (although you have called it Barque, Norge :-) ). It is Norway's largest sailing vessel.

Oh, yes! I love the tall ships, too!!
I got to see quite a few at the Wooden Ship Festival in Port Townsend last year. It's a yearly festival and just across Puget Sound. It was wonderful! What a great post for the day, Wil! Hope you have a good week!

Me again. The ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl" is a three masted barque. If you follow the link you can see how it looks from our veranda (from "Tall Ships' races 2008)

I was fortunate enough to see tall ships from many nations several years ago when they visited Norfolk, Virginia. They are truly a spectacular sight.

Oh Wil, you are so lucky to have all these tall ships near you! They are all so fabulous. I recognized Rune's ship right away.
A decade ago I got to crew on a passenger-carrying windjammer with three big sails. Being a deckhand on the American Eagle, sailing along the coast of Maine, was the most exciting four days of my life!
Thanks much for this post, Wil.

Hello reader Wil. Tall ships are amazing. Seeing them is seeing the history of man, adventure, trading and also lots of tragedy, also when one thinks of the earlier slave ships.
Fantastic the gathering of the ships.

I suppose the ships have sailed away by now as it is 23 August 2010 here in Ohio and about 4:30 PM. I saw the tall ships one time on television when they all came to America. I really liked the many ships and the sights of them sailing.

I have since learned that the days when the nations were at war that a sailor on the tall ships was lucky to survive if attacked. One shell landing on them would send showers of splinters of all shapes and sizes flying in all directions. It must have been a time that was filled with sheer terror.

Hi Reader Wil! We've just had our first, short, visit to your country and our impressions were the greatest! It's a pity we didn't know about the ships in order to visit Amsterdam as well!

How wonderful to see all these tall ships, I have seen a few of them out here, but mostly not with full sails up. WOW.
