ABC Wednesday W for Wildlife in Australia.

Red back, funnel web, blue ringed octopus
Taipan, Tiger snake, Adderbox and Jellyfish
Stone fish and the poison thing that lives in a shell, that spikes you when you pick it up

Come to Australia
You might accidentally get killed

Your lifes constantly under threat
Have you been bitten yet?
You've only got 3 minutes left
Before a massive coronary breakdown

Red back, funnel web, blue ringed octopus
Taipan, Tiger snake, Adderbox and Jellyfish
Big shark, just waiting for you to go swimming
At Bondi Beach

Come on

Come to Australia
You might accidentally get killed
Your blood is bound to be spilled
With fear your pants will be
Filled
Because you might accidentally get killed

Before I came to Australia in 1996, I had no idea of the variety of wildlife. There were animals I had never seen before, even never heard of. It was a completely new world I entered. The sound of the birds was different. Australian birds are more beautiful and colourful than European ones, but their sound is not as lovely as those of our birds. Of course I was looking forward to seeing kangaroos, but I didn't know that the smaller kind of them were called wallabies, and the young ones joeys. Most photos of the animals in this slide are taken by Australian photographers, and I didn't see them myself! I did my best to see a platypus, but this animal is very elusive. I heard dingos barking, but never saw them.I only saw a croc after my seventh stay in Oz. I saw a goanna for the first time in 2008. And there are many more animals I still want to see!!Well I collected some photos of wildlife on this beautiful continent.

I love your new header photo of Dutch wildlife! lol Looks much the same as ours! I know Australia has a lot of snakes so let me know if there are any photos in your slideshow of any - can't look at them. :(

Yes, the windmill was a gift from the Netherlands to San Francisco. I need to get the information again as I have forgotten much of the details about it. It was in disrepair for so long due to the cost of repair. Now at last its back to its beautiful self. The flower gardens around it are a showcase of color, especially in the spring with the tulips in bloom.

Surely an exotic collection of animals. I'd love to see them in real life - Australia is on my bucket list but...

That the Aussie's funny sense of humour. When my mum first arrived to live in Oz, they were living in the hills of the Gold coast. My brother had a big section, almost a small farm. But he didn't grow anything.

Mum made dad dig a big patch for her and she grew corn. Mum used the precious Oz water, and when the corn was 3 inches tall, mum was so happy.

My sis-in-law ( Kiwi gal) heard mum went ##@@$$!!!!. She thought my parents were arguing.

Mum was cursing the kangaroos who ate all her crop.

Have I told you this? Sorry if I had.

Nice post Wil. We may not have the nightingale but we do have lovely songbirds as well as those with harsh voices. I certainly have seen all those you mention as well as many more. You will just have to come back again and stay a while.

Happy Christmas to you my dear!

We have not been to Australia, Wil but when I was still teaching, our English teacher at the school became a friend of mine. Before he married, he used to fly to Australia in the summer and spend a month or two hitch-hiking across the outback. He met a lot of people he said who were anxious to help him and took him in and fed and watered him. He always made it but he also said the outback is a huge territory and not many truck or cars were along the way for him to hitch a ride with.
