Weekend Reflections, The Netherlands, Rotterdam

Rotterdam was not so long ago one of the most important harbours in the world. These photos were, however, not taken in the harbours, but in the city centre. There are always many inland vessels and rivercraft.

Strange, the second photo looks like Singapore, and I think I mentioned this before. It is those bum boats.

In 1980 I arrived in Rotterdam by train as I recall and we my then young husband and I had nowhere to stay, so we were forced to accept lodging at an expensive hotel nearby. I still remember that night, the best sleep I had experienced in a long time during our travels but I saw little of Rotterdam. The next day we set off at daylight for Haarlem. These photos are wonderful. Thanks.

I can feel the atmosphere of an old harbour. There is something special about the old ports, and Rotterdam is certainly one of the best known.

Rotterdam looks like a great place. I like your photos a lot including your header. I wish I had the time to see Rotterdam for myself on my vaction this fall but Antwerp will be as close as I'll get.

Lovely, Wil. Especially like the top one with the contrast between the old (the boats) and the new (the buildings).

I love the photos. The contrasts make for a lot of interest. Buildings and water. Modern and old. Color and monochrome. Well done.

Lovely pics, Wil! It never ceases to amaze me how creative some of the modern architects are in designing their buildings -I love the one in the middle of your first pic.
Also, the boats are a familiar and reassuring sight!

A gorgeous collection of reflections! Love the strong reflection colours in the first photo!

Golly the red fairly pops straight out of your first photo, Wil. I always hunt for scarlet but she is a hard master. You have a wonderful treatment here.

That is one gorgeous city, my friend. I love the play of light on the various shapes of the buildings and vessels. Your timing was superb.

I have visited Amsterdam - and loved it - but have not been to Rotterdam. What wonderful reflections and light quality! I found you via Weaver.

Vicki's 'visual echoes' is spot on!
