Maihaugen (Norwegian: De Sandvigske Samlinger på Maihaugen, Lillehammer) is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Lillehammer, Norway. Maihaugen is Europe's largest open air museum and is one of the largest museums in Norway, with close to 200 buildings.

Maihaugen tells the history of how people have been living in the valley of Gudbrandsdalen from the Middle Ages until today.

I had a coffee here sitting on this very bench with a cousin of my husband. She is a widow like me. She has lived in Norway for more than 40 years now.

Another museum, but much smaller than Maihaugen.

On a sunny afternoon I walked with one of the members of our group to this little museum in Hemsedal, called Bygdatun folksmuseum. Our guide showed us the main house and the various outhouses.

RuneE of Visual Norway
began this informal meme on "Bench of the Week". Please visit his site for other participants. PERBS has a whole site dedicated to benches called "For the Love of Benches", which is going on for two years and every day she posts a new bench. Her friend Malyss. has shown more than 600 benches on a site called "benchesonmyway"..

I like the log cabin. I snap a few benches, but have not had the opportunity to post them for you.

Have a good weekend. Ours is half gone.

What a wonderful place.
It is so good that they have such outdoor museums of the old days and ways.
The one in Switzerland I could have taken DAYS to go through, it is so big.

I love the log building, grass roof and lovely view. Outdoor museums are a wonderful idea.

The "picnic tables" are almost the same all over the wold, but the two benches in front of the log cabin are very special to that place and match with it very well! all made of wood, that's so beautyful!
This museum must be very interesting to visit!
I saw you were speaking about Bergen yesterday, that's where our friend RuneE lives!
PS: the statue was something like St Georges or Saint Michael, they often protect mediterranean ports;
Have a nice week-end!

Going on the Hurtigruten right round to the Russian border was a wonderful introduction to Norway for the farmer and me - it is such a beautiful country and so empty.

Both of these museums look like wonderful places to visit. I really like the log cabins (and, of course, the benches).
