When my Australian family stayed with me in May, we went to the windmills and to other places not far from my home. We saw many waterbirds as in this part of the country there's a lot of water. All kind of waterbirds were having young ones, some of the chicks swam after their mothers, others were carried by their mums on their backs. We saw ducks, grebes and coots, the latter in very dirty water.

Camera Critters is hosted by Misty Dawn. Thank you so much Misty Dawn.We all enjoy seeing and talking about animals. All creatures great and small give us much pleasure. If you want to see more Camera Critters click on the logo in the side bar.

We were astonished that these geese had so many goslings. We hardly could count them.Neither could we see what kind of geese they were.

I also love the shot you've used for your header.

The babies are all so cute. Love the ones riding on momma back. The the Coot babies are so adorable.

You have coot babies, so cute. I think the coot I saw in Italy must be roaming around proudly with her babies now. :)

I saw a family of nine cygnets last week which is more than I've seen together for a long while - must be a good year for them.

What a good mother duck to keep her last remaining baby safe from on her back.

Thanks for clarifying Wil....my poor eyesight. We have them breeding in one of our dams in a good year.

Your Australian family must have loved this different view of Holland in the spring. I do too.

In case you miss my reply on Unst 1985 - All UK lighthouses were automated in the 1990s. The vast majority still operate but none are now manned. The lighthouse-keeper is a lost species.

That's amazing. You don't suppose they adopted some of them? :-)

Did your daughter bring the Australian coots to you? They are here too, but only after 1950s.

In Western Springs, our geese also have many goslings. I posted this, which had about 20 goslings.

Great shots. And 16 goslings, wow. If I had to guess I would say those geese are Greater White-fronted Geese. But that is just a guess as I don't know that they are native to your neck of the woods. Love all the shots of the babies. Love this time of year in the animal world.

Ducklings are always so cute. Interesting to note that on the creek near my apartment complex, a pair of mallards are nesting; and at my friend's horse boarding stable the owners have acquired six ducklings to grow up as bug control experts. On the latter, I think they need more than a mere 6.
