ABC Wednesday, T for Tornado and Twister.
How devastating a tornado is and even a mini tornado we can see in this video and photos. We have recently seen how destructive tornadoes are.
A tornado is also commonly referred to as a "twister", and is also sometimes referred to by the old-fashioned colloquial term cyclone.
With thanks to Denise Nesbitt, who created ABC.For more interesting ABC posts click on the logo in the sidebar or Here. This week we are looking for words beginning with T.
This is what the cyclone Larry caused in Queensland, Australia in March 2006. The two bottom photos are from newspapers. I have no photos of the tornadoes that recently raged over the USA, but it was on TV and I saw the destructions they caused. I am so sorry for the people who live there.
Here is a video of the aftermath of the tornado in Joplin.

We've had more than our share of tornadoes over here this year. The pictures from Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee look very similar to your pictures from Queensland. Tornadoes are the same the world over -- bad news!
George is right, tornadoes are indeed bad news and the destruction here in the US this storm season has been far worse than usual! Hope you stay safe and storm free, Wil, and have a great week!

Tornadoes are so scary. We had a bad one recently in my town and I felt lucky not to be affected and sad for those who were.
I have only witnessed a tornado on TV. I am thankful that I have never seen one, or experienced one any other way.
Tornadoes/twisters have been devastating in many places across the U.S. this year. Terrible Tragedies - two T-words.
I live right in "Tornado Alley". There have been many tornadoes in the area this year. We had one here in Mena on April 14 that only damaged a few buildings. In 2009 we had a tornado that damaged a large portion of town with 600 homes damaged.

Tornados are so scary because their path is so unpredictable. I too lived through one - as a kid. My parents I think were more scared than my brothers and I!
The tornados are a real tragedy no matter where they are.
It just gives me a knot in my stomach when I see pictures of them.
Terrific post Wil.
Tornadoes are certainly deadly. Great post.
Terrifying.
Yet the term 'twister' always reminds me of THE WIZARD OF OZ, and seems more benign than they actually are.

Tornado is a powerful T word. In Asia we suffer more from Typhoons. Either way, the devastation and Tragedy they cause are Terrible.
Terrific shots of what tornados are capable of...I'm so grateful I've never been involved in any and all I have to complain about is the wet and cold we've been having (the worst in 50 years here!) Have a great week,

Terribly powerful tornadoes seem to be commonplace this year. Winds up to 200 mph. The US news watched, via storm chaser video, the entire process as the twister went through two small towns and caused total disaster. So sorry for those folks... Excellent and timely T post.
Seeing photos like these makes me grateful to live in a temperate climate, no tornadoes, typhoons, torrents or tsunamis.
Totally Terrible Tornado damage, Wil. I wouldn't want the Task of Taking photos of them. I'd want to be somewhere else in a hurry.
I've only seen Tiny Twisters known as "dust devils" but I remember them picking up Trash along the way.
Excellent post for T day, my friend.

I also live in an area where we are always on the watch for tornados. Just two weeks ago the tornado alarm went off in our small town during the high school graduation. Fortunately, we were spared, and just experienced rain, and some wind. However, the town of Joplin, MO was not so fortunate, that evening.
Oh I've been so saddened with the stories of devestation from the Tonadoes.
However it is a good use of the letter "T"
Fortunately we don't live in a tornado area, although I remember it happened once her in Belgium too ! must be terrible !

I just heard the sirens and quickly looked outside – nice and sunny, no storm in sight, and very warm – 96 degrees F (36 C.) Then I looked at the clock – it is 12 noon, and they blow the sirens I think the first day of the month to make sure they work, but since we only hear them when a tornado is coming, I always jump when I hear them. Too many tornadoes this year already.
Oh my Lord, it's an amazing video. I have experienced twister once in a coastal are where I grew up in the Philippines. So scary!

What a terrifying force a tornado is.
