Weekend Reflections Lavoir

Posted by Picasa

Again the lavoir or washing place in Bracieux( see previous post). This was the water in which the laundry was done.It was apparently very clean. Here you can see how the women washed the laundry

This is a new meme which gives us the opportunity to show our best photos of reflections. It is a meme that is started by James. You can join this meme at some time during the weekend. Just post your photo and go to James to tell him that you are on.

The water may have become a little less clean with the washing machine, on the other hand... :-)

At least the water made your pictures very nice indeed.

Dear Reader Wil, I have you on my I recommend list, but for some reason have not visited recently. I love your blog and sometimes get too tired to visit all. The last two posts were very interesting. You have an interesting story to tell. I cannot get onto your followers list, since I have a problem with Google I can't figure out. But I consider myself a followers. Come by for a visit and share my birthday month.

This and your previous post are so interesting. I never knew about such laundry places. It was a good idea.
Am having trouble with the Internet all day; hopefully tomorrow your link to the washerwomen will work for me.

Ya, Wil I will be 72 Nov. 27. I am doing a daily thanksgiving challenge and highlighting 2 of my followers each day. Some of them I haven't heard from in weeks. I guess folks stop and start and go on about other things. I am always posting some thing that happened in Nov. 37 each day. I am enjoying finding all that on the internet. Makes for a fun time. Birthdays at my age are not too made a hoopla. Our eldest son will be 48 on Nov. 26. He was born in 1961 one day before my birthday. He was our first. A nice BD gift. Thanks for your visit.

Trees reflected are always beautiful. When I think of lavoirs, I have these images of old postcards and women washing clothing and sheets...

Lovely reflections reader wil - trees look so lovely without their leaves at this time of the year.

The trees provide a wonderful reflection in the water and such a peaceful location, Wil.

What a great reflection and an interesting historical place. I'm glad that we have washing machines now. :)

It must be so cold to wash your laundry in Winter, unlike in Borneo, where the river is always warm.

Very good reflection, is it because the water is shallow?

I am new to your blog. I have arrived here through Weaver in the Grass, drawn by your Dutch associations.

My parents left Holland in the early 1950s and have lived here in Australia ever since.

I have looked through your recent posts to find one that might lend itself to a comment, but here you are in France.

I have joined your blog now and I look forward to reading more.

I call my blog 'sixthinline', because I am sixth in line of nine children, four born in Holland, the other five in Australia.

And you have a daughter here in Australia, too. I live in Melbourne.

My parents are from Haarlem. I have a beloved cousin, Cees Jan, who lives in Amsterdam. I visited him last two years ago.

You and I perhaps have things in common, despite our distance so far away across the world.

Wonderful. I watched the washing. I don't think it's that long ago even though it probably feels like it.

Lovely pictures Wil. The water looks like a mirror.

No... I don't know Bracieux !

Merci de vos commentaires : j'aime beaucoup la musique classique, mais d'autres musiques aussi,ayant un fils de 18 ans qui apprécie le rock et d'autres rythmes modernes ;

Can you imagine having to take the laundry down to a public place like that to do your washing? It must have been hard to do. Hope you have a start to a wonderful new week.

I love your reflections. The photos and the stories of the trips.

Lovely place. How hard they worked in those days!

Lovely spot to do laundry but the actual chore leaves a lot to be desired. Watching that video makes me very happy to dump my clothes in a metal hole, pour in a little soap and push a button.
