AUSTRALIA often has dust storms, but they are rare in Sydney and yesterday the city was almost brought to a standstill. I found these photos here. Queensland also suffered from the dust storm. I know that this is not the sky I see at the moment, but I am interested in Australia, as one of my daughters lives in Queensland. In the mean time the air is clear again and everybody is washing their cars!

My daughter in Sydney was up in time to photograph the surprise red sunrise.
Tons and tons of dust from the country's red center were dumped on Sydney!
That is amazing! I grew up in west Texas and saw lots of sand storms, but nothing like this! Wow! The shots are incredible -- scary, but incredible!

I read about this in The Times today reader wil. Apparently in Sydney visibility was only a few feet.

Thanks for these photos. We saw about the dust storms in Australia on the news here in the US. I can't imagine being in anything like that.
That must have been some dust storm. I can't even begin to imagine what going through one would be like.
Also had to believe it's almost the end of another week.
Time for me to start some supper for all of us. Ham slices, fried potatoes, lima beans and brownies for dessert. Not the healthiest, but food we all like. LOL

Gosh that is some dust storm - have seen a few myself but nothing like that. Amazing photos.
Oh my, isn't this weird? I know it must be scary as hell, but it makes for beautiful photographs. I have seen other photos too and am simply amazed. First time to hear about this phenomenon in Australia and first time to hear it was red.

I saw some of this on the news. It must be horrible for the animals. Breathing would be hard and animals may end up suffocating as a result. I wonder if this is also blowing away the top soil and where is it headed? I hope your family are OK.

reminds me of a scene in the movie total recall. i cannot even imagine the massive cleanup that all must face after such an event.

I have lived through a couple of sand storms in West Texas. That had to be the scariest time of your life. Glad all is well now.

Heb die beelden deze week ook op het nieuws gezien, was wel heel eigenaardig. Er waren daar mensen die nog aan het joggen waren, maar verscheidene van die joggers zijn nadien opgenomen in het ziekenhuis vertelden ze toen.
I saw on TV the duststorm. It's hard for those who have medical problems. And not only them. I can understand the people there. Sometimes , when we have south winds, red sand comes from Sahara desert.
That is some color there. I hope the air clears for you. Meanwhile, though, you got some great pictures.
