I think that this is the Grey Heron. This bird is quite common where I live. Wikipedia says :"The Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), is a wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in the milder south and west, but many birds retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions. It has become common in summer even inside the Arctic circle along the Norwegian coast."

Such elegant birds! We rarely see them at our farm but there is usually a Great Blue Heron fishing in the river when I cross the bridge on my way to town.
Thank you, Reader Wil. for this look at your heron.

He is a real beauty, Wil. I hope he caught a fish after posing for your camera :)

What elegance and grace expressed in the birds ballet pose...is she looking for fish or just gazing at her gorgeous reflection? <3

What a great series of photos! In the first photo, the eye of the bird is so clear that you can see how intent he is to reach the water. Then the photos with the water reflection and the flowers are so very romantic. I like them very much.

Beautiful bird! He seems to be leaning over to view his reflections.

Hi Wil,

What a handsome bird! We have the Great Blue Heron here, and it looks a lot like your grey one, except maybe a little bigger. I see them at my pond, and saw several today on the river. You took great pictures!

Hope your weekend is going well.

Hugs,

Renie

They are wonderful birds to watch. There careful, measured moves just relax a person. You just know they are on tip toes.

I photograph heron in Taiwan also. They are different species, black-crowned night-heron. The one in Taiwan seems does not migrate much. The move so slowly and so elegantly when they fish. thanks for sharing.
