Today's Flowers. Hostas

This year is the first time my hostas managed to grow without being eaten by snails or slugs. It even got flowers. I had put slug- pellets around the plant as soon as it showed some leaves. So that does the trick!

They are beautiful! I heard to prevent slugs to infest your garden, avoid watering them in late afternoon. I used Salt with mine as pellets can be too expensive for me. :)

Incase you get lost with my blog, here's the link: Orchids Show from The Entrance.

We tend to overlook hosta flowers when admiring their leaves, don't we - but in fact they are beautifully simple flowers. I have also had a purge on slugs with mine this year and have more or less managed to combat them.

The flowers are almost a bonus -- the leaves are so wonderful. If one can find leaves that haven't been slug-chewed, three leaves in a clear glass vase make a beautiful and dramatic display.

Thanks, Reader Wil, for the lovely photos.

I love the second macro! I like the light and shadow and looking closely a little critter on the stem.

I don't know our name for that one (or even whether we have them), but I would very much like to see them around here. You have caught the beautifully.

Love your hosta flowers, Wil. Very lovely! My hostas bloomed several weeks ago and all I have left are some spindly stalks, which I need to remove, as the hummingbirds keep visiting hoping for a sip of nectar. Poor birdies.

Ah, you do take excellently beautiful pictures, Wil. Your hosta's are an examle of that. They are lovely. I don't have hosta's either, but my Naked Ladies are blooming at the moment, and are lovely as well!

Happy Sunday/Monday!

Hugs,

Renie

That hosta is really gorgeous. My Gram had tons of it, and it was always so beautiful first because it was hers and second because it was what it was!

Nice looking flowers on your hostas. Ours have slowly been dying off, and I clip the long stalks off after the flowers drop. Hope you had a terrific week-end. Good night, sleep well.

Great shots and lovely hosta flowers.
Bees and bumblebees love hosta flowers.
That's what I do too..
Slug pellets around the base of the plant, adding crushed egg shells and coffee grinds.
My last post is about a small hosta too.

Down with slugs, I say! In the Northwest here we put a small jar lid of beer for slugs...does away with many...
And, salt, too...
The blossoms of the hostas are so delicate and fragile..Nice photos..
Have a great week..

You have slugs, mine are deer they "mow" the leaves as soon as it starts to show. :(
they tend to avoid when I spray hot chili powder mixed with water, dish detergent, and egg but when it rains it will all be washed out.
i have to keep at it, i guess! ;)

This is another exciting flower I've never seen before!
You asked where I took the Agave photo: it's not England - it's on the mediterranean coast. I believe some people do grow them on Guernsey, though.

Like the pale purple colour. I put slug pellets to for my veg garden.

An organic farmer tells me to crush egg shells. The snails and slugs don't like them.I compost my egg shells.
