Norway's National Day

There are so many Norwegian bloggers. I want to congratulate you all on this very important day!

17th May celebrations
The 17th May - Norway's National Day - is a public holiday in Norway and is celebrated extensively by Norwegians all over the world.

The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in the year 1814. The constitution declared Norway to be an independent nation.

The celebration of this day began spontaneously among students and others from early on. However, Norway was at that time under Swedish rule.

Thank you so much Wil! Have been so busy visiting and congratulate norwegian bloggers - I didn't check yours!

I can tell you the weather is great in most of the country - and that makes the childrens parade even more fun to watch! It is a beautiful sight!

Thank you very much.
We have had a wonderful day here in Oslo today. Beautiful weather, lots of places where people meet, take a drink and celebrate the National day.
The only problem this year is that many celebrate the ESC winner more than the constitution.
That is intrtiguing, but of no problen to me.

Félicitations à la Norvège pour cet acte d'indépendance.Je pense que ce jour est l'équivalent de notre 14 juillet !
Et pour son succès à l'Eurovision, même si c'est moins important !

I didn't know about that reader wil - so thank you for telling me. I love Norway - one of our best holidays ever was on the Hurtigruten from Bergen to Kirkenes, via the Lofoten Islands - it was wonderful and we saw the midnight sun and attended a concert at midnight in Tromso cathedral.

How serendipitous that they won the Eurovision on the eve of their national day! I didn't know it was their national day and happy day to all norwegian readers out there.
If Norway are like the Irish they could be 3 in a row Eurovision winners!

Og siden du kan norsk - en personlig ekstra stor takk både for denne fine posten og for din hilsen hos meg. Det har alltid vært en spesiell forbindelse mellom Nederland og Norge - Bergen ikke minst.

Just popped by Reader wil to say - you sent me an interesting and very moving report about an old lady who had rescued many Jewish babies during the war. I sent it on to several friends and then deleted it. Now I have told another friend and she would dearly like to know the story as she has friends in The Netherlands who also helped Jews during the war. Is it possible that you could send me it again? Please don't go to any trouble.

Oh, I missed this by a day. I hope all Norwegian bloggers and friends had a lovely National Day.

Is Etje writing in Norwegian? I can read and understand her comments, probably because I speak some German.

Hugs,

Renie
