Camera Critters. The Python, Australia

Posted by Picasa

My daughter sent me a couple of photos, among them this one. I recognised her bedroom and this snake lying on top of her mirror. I asked her what that snake was doing there. She said it was just a python and he was not dangerous, for he had plenty of food in the forest, like brush turkeys, wallabies, bandicoots, possums and rats. She said he was useful and that after taking the photo, she went to bed again. Just like that!!!!
Oh horror of horrors! I might be too concerned, but what if it had been a taipan or a death adder??

The coastal taipan has earned a reputation as the country's most feared snake because it sports the biggest fangs, one of the most lethal venoms and a rather aggressive nature - an unsettling combination if you find yourself in the parts of north Queensland and the Northern Territory which it calls home.

Camera Critters is hosted by Misty Dawn. Thank you so much Misty Dawn.We all enjoy seeing and talking about animals. All creatures great and small give us much pleasure. If you want to see more Camera Critters click on the logo in the side bar.

I don't know if I would have been so unconcerned about it (although I'm not afraid of snakes and I probably would have been only afraid of finding him in my bed). The snake's beautiful!
By the way, did the seeds sprout?

Oh mon Dieu!
But isn't the python venomous??
You have a mighty brave daughter.

But this photo makes me glad my kids live down in Sydney.
Good luck, Wil!

I cannot even bear to contemplate going to bed with a python on top of the bedroom mirror!! Of course, living in a country with only one venomous snake (and that fairly rare) I have never been used to such things.

Its great to see a python outdoors Im not sure inside is so good. I thought they were constrictors. Hopefully its not to hungry.

If a python can get in, why couldn't a coastal taipan get in the same way? I am not afraid of snakes but think I would find out how he got in and plug it up. Your daughter is quite brave and obviously knows the habits of snakes.

It would scare the hell out of me, as my dad used to say. His one near-cuss word, "hell" always meant he was scared.

I have found though, that people like my mother who grew up around West Virginia Copperhead snakes which are deadly, and then lived in Texas around some of the biggest rattlesnakes I ever saw (which she killed with a hammer)that the people who live around these creatures don't seem to be afraid of them.

I agree with Abe Lincoln, it would scare me also and I certainly would never have gone back to bed and slept. I probably wouldn't have got a good nights sleep the rest of my life!!!! haha

I may have nightmares tonight just thinking about it. The photo was kinda neat though.

I definitely would not be hanging around in my bedroom taking a photo of a snake, let alone sleeping with it there! Incredible shot!

I love snakes but I am very glad I live where there are no poisonous ones that is for sure! Did it just wander into her house? She must be quick on her snake identifying feet.

Good grief! Someone call the poor girl a therapist!

Ummmm ... I don't care if it was just a harmless python .... there is no way that I'd be climbing into bed and going to sleep with one of those draped over the mirror ... shudder !!!

having said all that ... it is a beautiful snake , that I am happy to admire, from a .........distance :-)

Hi Wil,

My nephew in Brisbane had a python once. He wasn't as brave as your daughter. He sent for the SPCA.

I would be absolutely terrified if even a little garter snake was in the same room with me! I do enjoy them in the wild - just not in my house.
